Twin brothers killed in Canadian bobsled accident

The teenagers used their own toboggans on the track after hours at the Canada Olympic Park.

POLICE IN CALGARY say two young men died after using their own toboggans to go down a luge-bobsled track after hours at the Canada Olympic Park.

Six other people were also injured. Calgary police said Saturday that emergency crews received a call from an employee at the WinSport Canada facility in northwest Calgary at 1.30am after a report of several injured people on a closed track.

Inspector Kelly Campbell said part of the way down the track the male teenagers hit a large gate that’s used to separate the luge and bobsled tracks.

The teens who died have been named as twin brothers Jordan and Evan Caldwell. The Toronto Star reports the 17-year-old boys’ family said they were “grieving their loss, but confident in their new home of heaven”.

“We were reminded today that life is but a vapour. Life is precious, life is fragile, and we must redeem the time we’re given,” they said in a statement.

Police are investigating how they entered the property.

WinSport Canada owns and operates Canada Olympic Park, which hosted events during the 1988 Winter Olympics. Several World Cup events are held at the site as well.

Very tragic, this is what young men do on occasion, they push the limits. as a young man i went down a black run skiing with insufficient training, learning as i fell. its one of the negatives for being male. but on the flip side a positive. As it is a trait which pushes discovery. Rest in peace, if there is an after life i hope its full of adventure for you.

I didn’t know Thomas Edison was also a proficient skier!

Was there anything the man couldn’t do?

@Kane Abel a very unusual comment to make, out of curiosity i looked at a sample of three of your comments made here. they were all nasty and small minded. comments without passion, just plain nasty. i will leave it at that.

Just someone acting out their own insecurities. Somebody somewhere probably treats him like this so he/she probably deserves sympathy. It’s a cry for help.

I live in Calgary and have been to that Olympic park many times. Those boys were volunteers there too for events. It was a crazy thing to do and they should have known that. I’m shocked that this has happened at all

I went down that very track too once but with professionals on the bobsled! Terrifying experience even with professionals at the helm!
I can’t believe even 17 year olds could be so foolish!
