Kenneth O'Brien killing: Gardaí granted extra time to question men

The two have been held over O’Brien’s murder since last Saturday.

THE CUSTODY OF the two men being held in connection with the murder of Kenneth O’Brien has been extended.

Gardaí have confirmed today that questioning is ongoing.

The two men were arrested on Saturday, in what has been the first major breakthrough in the case.

O’Brien’s dismembered body was found in a suitcase in the Grand Canal in Kildare last month.

The men, one aged mid 30s and the other aged mid 50s, were detained under the Criminal Justice Act 2007 and are being held at Leixlip and Naas Garda Stations.

Under the Act, the two men can be held for seven days.

His funeral took place last Wednesday.

He had recently returned from Australia and disappeared after telling his family that he was travelling to the country for work-related reasons.

Gardaí are reportedly pursuing as many as 300 lines of inquiry.
