Woman falls 60ft in John Lewis shop ... and lands on a bed

The incident happened in the Greater Manchester area.

A WOMAN IN England had a lucky escape after falling over a balcony in a John Lewis shop – and landing on a display bed.

The incident happened at the Cheadle branch of the department store in Greater Manchester on Monday afternoon, according to the Guardian.

Police attended the scene after receiving a report that a 60-year-old woman had fallen from the upper floor of the shop.

The woman reportedly suffered hip and spine injuries in the fall, which saw her plummet about 60ft (18m). She was taken to hospital following the incident.

John Lewis confirmed to the Guardian that there had been a serious incident at the shop.

A spokesperson said: “Our customers’ safety is of the utmost importance to us and all of our shops conform to the highest safety standards. We are helping the police with their investigations, and continue to offer support to our partners [staff] who witnessed the distressing incident.”

Ah I guess that was why he said partners instead of staff so. Thanks for explaining that cos I was about to go off on one about the ridiculous retitling bullsh¡t that corporate types get up to nowadays.

yea. the staff are called partners, they have a say in how the company is run and they all share a portion of the profits each year.

She was probably trying to kill herself too. That’s harder to fix than hip injuries.

What do you mean? If you are saying she did it deliberately then she is the greatest stuntperson in history.

I love how, in a metric system, they went with the largest unit of measurement they could to make it seem higher. 60ft is far more sensational than 18m even though they’re roughly the same measurement. A whole 60…wow! You’d have to think though, if it was some kind of scam and they were aiming for the bed, they’d have gone from a little lower? Just to minimise the risk? Especially at 60, if it was a 16yr old kid you’d think ye, it was a dare or some stupid scam attempt but at that, granted not elderly but still no spring chicken, age they’d have mi I missed the risk, even a one storey fall would lead to a decent pay out if that was the tactic.

I’m not suggesting she did it deliberately, I’m suggesting that the 60 foot figure was an exaggeration. I’d love to be proven wrong if anyone knows the shop though.

She fell from level 3 to level 1. Two 30 foot high rooms is not hard to believe for a store is it ? Anyway it’s a real place. All you’d have to do is google it!

I have a small paper news article from back in 2001 describing an accident caused by snowy weather conditions in which a 43 year old Male driver lost control of his vehicle before “plummeting” down a 20ft embankment and suffering back and head injuries. The 43 year old male was me – a 32 year old woman who did indeed lose control of my vehicle in the snow, and skidded over the top of a ditch! I actually walked away with bruising on my hip, a cut on my forehead where my rear view mirror hit me !

Hip and spine injuries? in todays hyperbolic media this probably means bruising or sprains!! Did anyone see this on the news other than the Journal???? Anyone know of a John Lewis in Manchester that has five or six floors?
