THEY’RE TWO OF Ireland’s biggest stars, but Hozier and Saoirse Ronan want to put their fame to good use.
The best-selling musician and Oscar-nominated actress have teamed up to record a video for Hozier’s single Cherry Wine as part of a campaign to raise funds for domestic abuse charities worldwide – including the Irish charity Safe Ireland.
While the song is released tomorrow, the video will be released on Valentine’s Day and stars Ronan and Moe Dunford, and is directed by Dearbhla Walsh. The song itself was written from the male perspective of an abuse sufferer.
“Domestic violence is an ongoing issue in our society, the statistics of which are shocking and the effects of which damage whole families, communities and span generations,” said Hozier.
With the song Cherry Wine, I tried to get across the difficulty of coming to terms with and facing up to domestic violence and the dynamic of an abusive relationship. I’m honoured to be joined by Saoirse Ronan, Dearbhla Walsh and Moe Dunford in spreading awareness on this issue.
Saoirse Ronan added: “I hope through the video and song we can shine light on the issue and complexity of domestic abuse and in doing so help those caught up in the cycle of domestic violence.”
Hozier is currently one of Ireland’s biggest music stars – he’s sold over 1.9 million albums and 10 million singles. Ninety cent from each iTunes download of Cherry Wine will be donated to Safe Ireland, thanks to Hozier, Columbia Records, Island Records and Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

Hungary have been getting cheap energy from Russia for years and when Orban announced they wouldn’t be changing the arrangement to suit NATO and the US he was called a dictator. Energy shouldn’t have to take sides in politics, everybody wants clean, reliable and green energy and nuclear is by far the best option, with a capacity factor of around 93% with the least environmental impact If we don’t start planning for it now we will be left way behind. You would have learned this in history at school? In Christianity, we believe in a higher moral power, God, above all else, and we are morally judged by Him alone. Most countries in the western world have adhered to this principle and formed their laws from biblical teachings for over a thousand years. This belief stands in the way of fascism and communism and has led to the aforementioned ideologies butchering millions throughout the past century. In 1940 I’d hazard a guess that almost 100% of them were Christians, ready to put their lives on the line to protect their families and fellow man from an evil so abhorrent, and that wanted to wipe religion off the map starting at the root in Judaism. This is what happens to society when religion is removed, there is no higher moral order to adhere to so evil will inevitably fill that void. Nuclear waste is minuscule compared to other radioactive waste that we produce mining rare earths or burning fossil fuels.

Can we not just have a government that is pro active and can see the problems of the future now and act on them now. Jaysus we want to wake up. ! With the whole Data business now clearly heading down the nuclear road, intermittent renewables not being the answer, we with our silly “no nuclear” position are heading for a big, big fall.
What we need here is the model, SMR, then the power hungry data centre, then all the waste heat to a mega complex of 24/7/365, totally pesticide free growing, which the Japanese tell us is 100 times as productive as intensive field production. Then the rest of the heat to the Fly factories, their larvae devouring a large portion of our in Ireland alone, one million tonnes of food waste a year, before being fed to the fish and fowl, the feeding of the former by plundering the World littorals, being the biggest environmental scandal of the last fifty years. Climate obligations, ecology and environment solved in one.
If nuclear reactors are now safe, it’s the way to go, but don’t let Harris near the contract.
