Complaints over worm in chicken nugget, animal tooth in jam and snail in sweets

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has released details of complaints received by its advice line in 2015.

THERE WAS A 14% increase in consumer complaints over poor food hygiene standards last year, the sector’s watchdog has said.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said contamination with foreign objects was among the most common allegations received by its advice line in 2015.

The reports included claims of food contaminated with dead insects and metal, as well as other foreign objects, such as an animal tooth in jam, a beetle in a burger bun, a worm in a chicken nugget, a metal screw in a cake, a snail in pick ‘n’ mix sweets and a sharp piece of glass in frozen peas.

Other criticisms related to undercooked food being served in food premises, out-of-date items being sold in retail outlets, mouldy bread being used to make sandwiches and strange tastes.

Vigilant

The number of complaints about incorrect information on food labelling was also up, by 10%.

Other allegations included in the 2,739 reports received online and over the phone related to:

  • unfit food (1,052)
  • hygiene standards (643)
  • suspect food poisoning (510)
  • failure to display allergen information (42)

The FSAI said all complaints were investigated by enforcement officers.

“In recent years, consumers have become much more conscious about the food they consume and are increasingly vigilant about food safety issues,” Edel Smyth of the FSAI said.

There is now a low level of tolerance around poor hygiene standards and food that is unfit to eat in particular.

“We continue to encourage anyone who has had a bad food safety experience to report the matter to the FSAI so that the issue can be dealt with,” she added.

Haven’t had proper council services for nearly 9 years and some of that time was during Celtic tiger years. I’m not going to pay a charge for the same shit services or worse services as they are now! Normal Irish ripoff, pay a shitload of taxes and get nothing for them.

Tax upon Tax upon Tax – Cuts upon Cuts upon Cuts

Something has to give and I think the LPT and proposed water charges are going to be the straw that breaks the camels back.

If the Irish people do not make a stand at some stage, it will NEVER end.

I’ve already paid a sizeable amount of property tax (Stamp Duty) when I purchased my home, along with paying €1500 p.a. management fee for the upkeep of my local area, so no I haven’t paid the additional bond holder bail out tax, nor do I intend to.

I was sick because of the following:
    1) I lost the pesky bet
    2) It broke my heart to see how the Irish fighting spirit had been snuffed out.

The money made from this tax on YOUR family home and the majority of taxes in the future will be goin towards these “bailouts” that we got, and are going to to get at least another 3. They are far from finished in ripping their pound of flesh from this country. We need a proper government who can see what is happening to this country and the rest of Europe. And unfortunately the stubborn owlfellas we currently have cannot see the game being played on us.

Paid it and like the majority I’m not happy to have done so. I am however self employed and could not have got a tax clearance cert without it. I still feel that abolishing it in the first place is where most of this problem lies. If they had kept it in place and kept it low over the years then no one would have to be paying what is an expensive rate at a very lean time. Saying that though it probably would have just been more money that got squandered during the boom!

Just hold out a couple of years, vote SF and the property & water taxes will be abolished. Hopefully this may also mean that our heads will be well and truly extracted from the backsides of our Troika masters because it doesn’t half stink. Naturally SF will be as useless as the last few governments but what has anyone got to lose.

If we are paying the LPT – which in turn pays for local services.
Then why will we have to pay a water charge? Isn’t that a local service ?

If you dont pay it, theyre only going to TAKE IT ANYWAY – direct from your Tax Credits next year… So how are you going to stop THAT?!
If you think you will get away without paying, you are living in a fantasy world.
YES they are robbing bastards. And YES we should not have to pay it. And YES, your correct – it will not be spent on ‘local services’.
But all that doesn’t take from the fact that they are GOING TO take it – whether you like it or not.

I think it is pathetic that they state it is for essential services in communities but I pay road tax like all motorists and yes we have motorways, but our streets are littered with litter & potholes & major roads are in a state of disintegration. They want to promote tourism, they need to ensure that the streets are worth passing through. It is about time that the taxes we pay are directed to the relevant areas.

I’m exempt from it too but I’m not happy, I would gladly pay the €100 if it meant my estate was finished and the useless greedy lazy developer was made to get off his arse, stop collecting a wage from Nama and do the work he was contracted and paid to do.

The fact that they will give the cash to apparently find local services is an insult to people’s intelligence. Also local services are so inefficient and of such poor quality it’s hardly an incentive to hand over the payment to be wasted on “local services”.
