Here's how much has been paid out to flood damaged households in these 22 counties

Almost €500,000 has been provided to 424 households.

THOUSANDS OF HOMES and businesses were damaged due to flooding last winter, with Storm Frank having a devastating impact for families over the Christmas period.

Since early December, financial support has been provided to some 424 households at a cost of over €498,700.

Galway had the highest number of applicants that received the payment with over €99,000 provided for 143 households.

The next in line was Cork with almost €120,000 spread between 63 households.

The government authorised spending of up to €10 million when a humanitarian assistance scheme was approved in November 2009. From 2009 to the end 2015, almost €4 million has been paid under the scheme.

The overall average payment over the past two months was €1,176.

Here’s a breakdown of the number of households that received the payments:

Minister of State at the Department of Social Protection Kevin Humphreys said, “The scheme is demand led and there is a time lag between the flooding event and actual claims for financial support.

Works carried out can include plastering, dry-lining, relaying of floors, electrical re-wiring and painting.

The OPW will publish its flood risk management plans this summer with flood prevention measures to manage flooding in those areas at significant risk and impact from flooding.

But they’ll send countless millions abroad for charitable causes, and how many millions are they giving away in family allowance to the non-resident children living in their home countries of immigrants here. Can you imagine Australia sending family allowance payments to the children of Irish people working over there?

What? I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Just over €1,000 wouldn’t pay for internal doors and skirting.

The reason there isn’t much spent in Galway is most of the houses are still under water, in a lot of places the floods are the same height as they were before Christmas.the main Galway – Limerick road is still blocked, and has been since December!

They’re probably waiting for the two fg candidates to get elected. Then if they get re-elected, the people who voted for them will get their few hundred euro compensation, which might buy them a second hand couch or something.

Meanwhile, there’s 19 million sitting in a bank account, ready to go for compensation to our disgraceful useless politicians who lose their seats in the election. Says it all about this gov. No money for anybody else who might actually need it but plenty money for themselves despite doing a very poor job in gov.

It’s probably a more realistic reflection on the state of the country than what this joke of a gov are trying to spin. They should be thrown out of gov and their political pensions taken off them, the money could go to a well deserving flood fund or something.

I’d love to know how this relief was calculated. Here in thomastown, where Joan Burton personally fell out of her canoe in sympathy, I know of houses that had over 5k damage and received 750e relief.

Still the property tax had to be paid how many got relief from paying into Irish waters bonus culture. If Noonan could find 30,000 extra for NAMA staff as an extra extra golden handshake overnight. How can this goverment treat flood victims who must find alternative accomadation, struggle along with children, work commitments, people who have not only lost their homes but a life time of memory’s. This county has lots of money but those who benefit are not those who keep paying into the system. The next goverment will have to carry out enquirys into both NAMA and Irish water unless FG and Labour can regain power and whitewash another scandal.

How can fg be promising 12 billion or 8 billion in their fiscal space thing when the compensation to flood victims is so poor. The numbers don’t add up. It doesn’t make any sense.

As one of the flooded is suggest these amounts are payments for rented equipment like skips and pumps etc. Over two months on and I’m still waiting for insurance to agree what they are covering let alone beginning repairs.
