Is the film supposed to herald an actual Wakanda?
There are plenty of African countries without a colonial past, and still among the poorest in the world with a corrupt elite.
South Africa and Zimbabwe back in native hands with the strongest economies in the continent. Now broken basket cases.
But by all means let this film signal empowerment.
Just another exercise in making the liberal elite feel good about themselves.

@Ó Connmhaigh: The reason Wakanda remained uncolonised is that a giant meteorite made of magic metal landed there, and jumpstarted an advanced technology. The idea is that an African continent with a technological edge would have retained its resources and its diverse cultural heritage, rather than becoming the economic victim of the colonial powers. Wakanda is an Africa that wasnt ravaged by external greed and inhumanity. And thus it is the best kind of fantasy: a golden age. See also the Land of Saints and Scholars, Camelot, Middle Earth etc.
That clear it up for you? Or did you mean to imply that Africans are subhuman and thus incapable of an advanced society, which is what I suspect is more likely to be your reprehensible point.

@Ó Connmhaigh: The only African country who has never been colonized by Europeans is actually Ethiopia. But It still had been occuped by Italy twice, and suffered from numerous Occidental destabilisation attempts so that this country had to remains really closed to exterior with Cuba since early 20th century. Also, you have to know Ancient Egypt was actually black, it is now an actual fact well-known by scientific community thanks to Cheick Anta Diop metholody ( another black ) which is currently used to identify race of non-recognizable dieds around the world. Great film.
One of the worst criticisms that can be given to a film is ‘forgettable’. And this movie is exactly that, forgettable. The movies that Hollywood etc are churning out these days are awful. Thank God for ’3 billboards Outside……’ or Netflix originals because otherwise I would just buy an X-box.
I believe the movie is actually good but the hijacking of marvel movies and comic books with social justice agendas is really starting to hurt the superhero business. Marvel introduced a lot of SJW characters…a female Thor…a female Iron Man a new Ms Marvel who is Muslim…a lesbian latina superhero called America Chavez…oh and they turned one of my favourite X Men…Iceman into a homosexual…who knew Bobby was gay?? But the comics have all been steadily declining to the point that Marvel are cancelling these SJW comics…it seems lesbians, trans and feminists dont read comics…who would have guessed. It is ridiculous though. Just tell the damn story…Black Panther is awesome enough of a character without having to make him the ultimate Black Lives matter poster boy!!!
