A 31-YEAR-OLD WOMAN has died after falling from a ride at the O2 arena in Dublin.
The incident happened at around 11.20pm last night at the complex in Dublin’s docklands. The woman was taken to hospital.
Our pictures show some of the fairground sealed off this morning. It is thought a number of people would have been in the area at the time of the accident.
The scene has not yet reopened after forensic examination by gardaí, who are mounting an investigation into the death.
Gardaí have this evening issued an appeal for a man, who was also travelling on the ride while recording footage on his mobile phone at the time of the accident, to come forward.

The Health and Safety Authority have said they will not be investigating as it was not a work-related incident.

Hi all, thanks for your comments. Just to clarify that there are a number of rides in the area and it’s not yet been confirmed exactly where the accident happened.

Michael, that picture wasn’t the one used earlier today. The picture at that time had a wide view of the dockland area with only the wheel visible near O2.
Are these type of attractions answerable to a regulatory body or do we just trust them to operate safely?
It seems so. Makes one wonder should we allow our children attend fairgrounds. would be better all round if
H&S or some gov body regulated this area.

The Britney Spears concert was on last night; perhaps they were hoping to get a few customers when it finished?

Health and Safety are investigating and and are asking for witnesses to come forward also

Never trust those things. Have the tattooed guys, with the fag in the mouth, operating them really got your trust that they constructed them to the highest possible safety standards? Just a question like……

I would be pretty confident in saying that it wasn’t the wheel. I was down there at about 11pm last night and the wheel was closed.
There were a number of fairground rides there, waltzers etc so it was one of them.
I don’t get it – how many rides are there at O2? Is it not just the wheel??
Sometimes they have a few extra funfair rides. But to fall and be killed! I can only imagine it was the big wheel as I don’t recall seeing something tall enough to result in death.
Bonnie, death can occur from relatively short falls. The O2 site has a couple of funfair rides at the rear of the venue so most likely was these as the wheel is indeed an enclosed capsule.
I was able to put my hand out through the doors on the wheel last xmas! Would never go on it again!!
Why would you even attempt to do that? If people respect the safety features of these rides things like this shouldn’t happen!

i read it was the “tip top” ride that the accident happend on, we were also at the o2 on monday night, when we were leaving none of the rides were operating, the owners must have just started them up because the rain had eased up, how they were allowed do this is beyond me, there had been so much rain and some of those rides have no protection from the weather.. this story is heartbreaking, a young girl has lost her life, my thoughts go out to her friends and family..
My sister worked with the girl who died.
