GARDÁÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a woman was allegedly attacked by a teenager in broad daylight.

A woman (believed to be in her 20s) reported that she was attacked on the morning of 25 February as she walked near Westpark Fitness gym in Bancroft Park in Tallaght in southwest Dublin.

The attack occurred at about 9am. The woman was approached and knocked to the ground, but managed to escape her attacker.

Her alleged attacker is described as:

  • Male.
  • Around 5′ 6″ to 5′ 7″ in height.
  • Between 16 and 17.

He is described as wearing light grey tracksuit bottoms and a black hooded jacket with a wooly collar.

Cultural enrichment continues without a full description of attacker. Perish the thought people in the area would be told the full details.

In fairness, the Gardaí are probably giving you what they have. I doubt that anyone attacked, at random, would be able to give a good description of the attacker. And there’s probably no cctv in a park.

Possible, Swedish police have been banned from issuing details of wanted criminals race. German police too. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/swedish-police-are-not-allowed-to-give-descriptions-of-alleged-criminals-so-as-not-to-sound-racist-a6810311.html

I understand what you mean but there has been 2 other much more serious attacks on young girls and women by groups of new arrivals. They were deliberately suppressed at request in the media to avoid raising tensions in the area. I appreciate that but safety of local women and girls should be priority. Sometimes people should have all the information. In short do not let girls or women walk unaccompanied at any time of the day as culturally in other countries with more robust religions women and girls who go out without a man are somehow deemed to be worthless harlots. Hopefully Gardaí can be given the resources (overtime) to let it be known in the area that attacking random women and girls is not normal behaviour and not acceptable in Ireland.

Interesting, I wasn’t aware of the request for the details to be suppressed. Any official word of the request from the Gardaí, or the media who accepted the request? Come to think of it, why would responsible media accept such a request?

David that happens all the time. It’s not always complied with. For example Nóirín wanted the images of the Recency Hotel with the 2 men with AK47′s entering the hotel suppressed from the front pages the next day. They raided the photographers home with a court order to recover the data but a copy had been made and it went to print. In hostage situations Gardaí also ask media to withhold information so as not to escalate the situation and or give away Garda positions at the scene (see Paris supermarket attack)

She got a photo of him from the back. Black male, late teens, grey track suit with black jacket. He got a bit of a beating too.

To be fair a story about ‘culture bosses’ stealing something barely merits a comment, it’s practically a given they were on the rob.

Eh never mind the story about the Rhino Horns.. We have one story on NAMA corruption and no doubt the comments closed. On Friday The Journal had no less than four stories on Slab Murphy but the only story on the NAMA controversy has being up since last night..

Do these lads know they would get a jail term and be registered as sex predators? Consent and consequences need to be taught. I hope they find the creeps.
