A TRUCK WENT on fire this evening near the Dublin Port Tunnel.

The fire broke out before 5.30pm as the truck was just outside the tunnel. It was able to stop near a bridge a short distance away from the tunnel entrance.

Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene and put out the blaze.

The driver was uninjured.

The tunnel was closed during the incident but has since reopened, though it is filtering into one lane.

How would Westmeath feel if Athlone east side of the Shannon was transferred to Roscommon?

Should not the people of Westmeath be consulted as to whether they want Roshcommoners?

If Deputy Murphy rationalise his comments on the Athlone boundary then locations like Baylough, Connaught Street and Gardens St Anne’s Tce all in Athlone are de facto on Co Roscommon and should not be in the Athlone Municipal District as they are located west of the natural boundary of the river Shannon.

Can somebody tell me what the lay of the land is as of today? I always thought the part of Athlone on the Connacht side was in County Roscommon….am I wrong?

Counties should be Football and Hurling divisions only. Complete scutter after that.

It makes perfect sense that a single urban area (i.e. Athlone) should come under the control of a single local authority. How can you have integrated urban development when 2 county councils are in the mix?
It only remains the question of whether Westmeath or Roscommon are responsible for all of Athlone.

Each county should be a constitute in its own right……END OF STORY. Of course that does not ever suit the party re drawing the boundaries.
