Wetherspoons' plans for a 'super pub' on Camden Street have hit a snag

The street may already have too many pubs.

PLANS FOR A Wetherspoons bar and hotel on Dublin’s Camden Street have hit a snag after council officials expressed concern about the number of late night venues in the area.

Earlier this year, the UK pub chain submitted a planning application to change the Camden Hall Hostel for homeless people into a 98 room hotel and bar/restaurant.

The plan received a number of objections and now Dublin City Council have asked JD Wetherspoon for more details before the application proceeds.

Dublin City Council says that the Camden Street area needs to strike an appropriate balance between different uses and also consider nearby residents.

Camden Street is designated as a market street and the council says that this limits the number of bars and restaurants on the street.

Concern is also raised about Wetherspoons’ plans to reduce the number of hotel bedrooms in the property.

The council has asked the developer to submit a map of bars in the area in order to establish if there is an over concentration in the area.

They are also asked to justify the reduction of the number of beds in the development and to submit a noise report including the expected noise from patrons in the planned outside courtyard.

In its application, JD Wetherspoon said that it will not play any music in the bar.

This decision from the council comes after number of residents and businesses on Camden Street objected to the development of what one person called a “super pub”.

Is there any reason a person can get fired with the wrc awarding them money? It’s getting a bit out of hand

@iohanx: I did read the article fully, the employee only worked 2 days a week and still was liable to be late/leave early/not turn up at all. Just because the employer didn’t write his warnings down you think he should be awarded 11k? I doubt anyone actually gets these pay outs as the wrc has no legal standing but still

@iohanx: I don’t know if messed up is the word I’d use but they clearly didn’t follow all the processes that they are supposed to. Maybe they didn’t have a Legal and a HR department to advise them because they are just a small time garage. Many smaller operators find it impossible to stay on the right side of employment law.

@lochinvar56: And what if the employer in this instance is telling the truth, stand up in the WRC and praise the employees ability and say his job is still open. Was he not treating him right? Typical comment from the we are entitled to everything brigade

Very strange that, being such an experienced and skilled mechanic, he didn’t look for or find another position with better pay.

Why the anonymity? If this was Dunnes or Tesco, their name would have been headline!
