Bus Éireann to lay on extra services for Easter weekend

600,000 people are expected to pass in and out of Dublin over the course of the 1916 Rising centenary commemorations.

WITH JUST FOUR days to go until the centenary celebrations of the Easter Rising kick in proper Bus Éireann has announced that it will lay on extra services to and from the capital.

Up to 600,000 visitors are expected to pass in and out of Dublin over the course of Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, while gardaí have urged people to use public transport for their journeys.

Easter Sunday will see an “enhanced timetable” operating on the following routes:

  • 100X (Dundalk-Drogheda-Dublin Airport-City Centre)
  • 101 (Dublin Airport-Balbriggan-Drogheda)
  • 103 (Dublin-Ashbourne-Kilmoon-Duleek)
  • 105 (Rathoath-Dublin)
  • 109 (Dublin-Dunshaughlin-Navan- Kells-Virginia-Cavan town)
  • 111 (Cavan-Granard-Athboy-Trim-Dublin City)
  • 115/A (Dublin-Kilcock-Enfield-Mullingar)
  • 120 (Dublin-Clane-Edenderry-Tullamore)
  • 126 (Dublin-Kill-Naas-Newbridge-Kildare)
  • 132 (Dublin-Tullow-Carnew-Rosslare Europort)
  • 133 (Dublin City-Ashford- Wicklow)

Easter Monday, which will see RTÉ’s enormous commemoration Reflecting the Rising take place, will meanwhile see the equivalent of a Saturday service operating on all the same routes (100X101103105109111115/A,120126 and 133) with the exception of the 132 Dublin-Rosslare service.

The company’s Expressway intercity services will run as normal.

However, extra services will also be laid on between Dublin, Dublin Airport, and Belfast on the X1 route until Saturday 2 April.

The bumper celebration planned for certain parts of the city will see some roads closing (most significantly O’Connell Street which will close from this Thursday 24 until Tuesday 29 March), and many different routes operating from alternative stops, while services that normally operate via O’Connell Street will now use Gardiner Street instead.

These bus stops will move locations for the weekend:

  • Routes 115, 120 and 126 – stops between the M50 and O’Connell Bridge will not be served
  • Routes 100X and 120 – will terminate at Custom House Quay
  • Route 126 will terminate at Georges Quay

Any idea if Dublin Bus are starting earlier than a normal Sunday? I wouldn’t mind getting myself a half decent spot for the parade that starts at 10

More late buses and drivers driving like lunatics to catch up on time tables, woohoo. But seriously, I was coming down the Enniskillen Road on Saturday coming back from Dublin at 12 at night and a Bus Eireann was up my arse the whole way, I mean right up my arse and I was doing the max speed of 100kph. It was genuinely scary and on some corners I could have lost it. Now imagine being on the bus doing that speed on them roads. Some of the drivers are lunatics.

I am in the middle of writing a complaint to Bus Eireann and was trying to find out what speed these buses are allowed to do when I came across your comment and incredibly my complaint is about the same route and same issue but opposite direction. He even had the audacity to make gestures suggesting that I was in the wrong when he tried but failed to overtake. It is incredibly sacry when one of these things comes hurtling up behind you when you know they are going faster than you and a hell of a lot faster than they are allowed to.
