You can now travel to Edinburgh and Birmingham from Knock Airport

70,000 new seats have been announced for Ireland West Airport by carrier Flybe.

70,000 NEW SEATS on six weekly flights have been announced servicing Knock Airport to destinations Edinburgh and Birmingham.

The announcement was made today by budget carrier Flybe.

The new flights have gone on sale immediately.

The new routes are designed with access to the Wild Atlantic Way in mind, with Knock serving as the principal hub to the much-heralded tourist route which runs the length of the western coastline.

At the same time Flybe has announced that is expanding its flights to and from Manchester Airport with an additional 8,000 seats this summer.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, welcomed the move as “good news for tourism” in the west and north west of the country, while Vincent Hodder of Flybe professed the airline as being “absolutely delighted” to be operating the new flights in and out of Knock.

“This further cements the airports position as the premier UK gateway for the West of Ireland as we now service nine different access points,” said Joe Gilmore, managing director of Knock Airport.

The new flights will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Further information can be accessed at Ireland West Airport’s website here.

I always said that the 3 main airports in Ireland for location wise etc. should be Dublin,Cork and Knock. Both Cork and Knock are almost the same distance from Dublin.

Roads to Knock Airport are crap. Takes ages to get there.

But Shannon also doesn’t make sense when you look at the map. Each province should have a ‘main’ airport.

Incorrect! The roads leading to Knock Airport are excellent, and, whilst not of motorway variety, there is no congestion.

Flybe’s announcement is good news for many businesses in the West.

You could fly to both these destinations a few years ago until they were pulled.. you could also fly to Germany but that disappeared as well. It’s not much good when they’re there for a few months and then gone again.

70 000 seats on 6 weekly flights? How do they manage to do that?
