Young girl decapitated in random attack

Police report that the incident appears to be a random attack.

A TAIWANESE CHILD has been beheaded in Taipei today in what police said appeared to be a random killing, sending shock waves through the island.

The victim, surnamed Liu, was with her mother and headed to a metro station to meet up with relatives when she was attacked, according to a police statement.

The suspect, a 33-year-old man surnamed Wang, reportedly overpowered the child’s mother and decapitated the child with a kitchen knife.

“The girl’s mother rushed forward to pull Wang away, but he was stronger and pushed (her) aside,” read the statement. “She died on the spot.”

Wang was arrested at the scene of the crime and is currently in police custody. He has yet to enter a plea.

The police did not specify the victim’s age, however, local media reported that the girl was four years old.

Police said Wang had been booked in the past over drug-related crimes. Taiwan’s Apple Daily reported that Wang was unemployed and living with his parents and had been hospitalised due to mental health issues.

Taiwan’s outgoing President Ma Ying-jeou called on authorities late this afternoon to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder, while police island-wide were instructed to increase patrols of neighbourhoods.

I think it might be how people interpret comments. For example, is it really appropriate to green thumb a comment saying “An awful tragedy”? If anything, we shouldn’t be allowed to comment on these sort of stories.

Terrible stuff. Should always be 2 people working together in that type of situation. I realise it’s not always possible to hire people if they can’t afford it. #RIP

When do farmers ever have two driving a tractor?

Don’t be silly Maggie. On most farms (that can afford it) there’s always 2 people together, especially around dangerous equipment. I think it might even be law.

It’s not the time for a debate but you’re wrong on this one Fergal. Slurry spreading is usually a one man per tractor job. If you’ve your own equipment to do the job you’d usually just do it on your own. RIP to the man.

RIP, Dreadfully for the family to lose a loved one in such circumstances. Safety in industrial operations has improved over the years but safety on farming has not kept pace. There is an urgent need for compulsory education around safety on the farm.
