THE PROCLAMATION is a pivotal part of the Easter Rising.
Read out by Patrick Pearse at the door to the GPO, it set out the hopes for a new Ireland. Its words still ring true for many Irish people today.

Any time I read it or hear it been read, it makes the hairs stand on the back of my neck. It is a masterpiece of stirring, emotive, nationalist literature.
It’s emotive and nationalistic alright but it’s not a masterpiece. It’s factually wrong in places, even if it’s aspirations were for the most part genuinely felt.
Amazing piece which really summed up the appropriateness of the way in which this celebration was handled be it from RTE and state departments to local Town Councils with a special mention to my local Enniscorthy organising committee for a brilliant job. There was always a risk of this celebration being hijacked by commercial paddy wackery interests but it wasn’t. Well done to all involved!

Every citizen should have their own Proclamation and be entitled to read it in public anywhere anytime and the world should stop and listen.
