WHILE IT’S STILL a long way from becoming mainstream, more and more items are being connected to the internet including alarms, cameras, and fridges just to name a few.

Now you can include drinking on the list with a smart wine bottle that connects to the internet.

Called Kuvée, its initial claim is that it keeps wine fresh for up to 30 days but will also give info on the wine you’re drinking.

Although it’s probably more accurate to call it a cover as it doesn’t work with traditional bottles of wine. Instead, you insert a specialised wine cartridge into it – which contains five glasses or 750ml of wine – and the device itself acts like a traditional wine bottle.

It comes with a touchscreen display telling you what wine you’re drinking, some info about it like its history and letting you order more wine cartridges through its store.

The device itself can last up to six hours of activity before needing to be charged again.

It’s not essential for it to be connected to WiFi but the makers say you’ll be missing out on certain features like shopping, and telling how long a lifespan wine has left.

Thankfully, you can still pour out some wine even when the battery is dead so it’s not all bad.

It has already surpassed its fundraising target of $50,000 on IndieGoGo and while it’s US-only, the makers plan to bring it to other countries.

There have been other attempts at making drinking smarter but without success. One such product called the ePint was launched on Kickstarter back in October but failed to meet its funding target.

Among the features it promised was it told you how much water and exercise you needed to recover from the amount of alcohol you drank.
