Clampers forced to stand-down due to hour change glitch

A software issue means customers had difficulty paying by text and the company suspended enforcement at hundreds of sites.

ONE OF THE country’s largest parking operators was forced to tell clampers to stand-down at hundreds of its sites yesterday after a glitch caused issues for customers using its ‘ParkByText’ system.

The problem was first reported by The Irish Times, which said there was a surge in calls to National Controlled Parking Systems (NCPS).

A number of people on Twitter also reported errors while trying to pay for their parking:

In a statement to TheJournal.ie, NCPS said the issues were caused by the clocks going forward and a software error which has now been fixed.

Clampers were instructed to suspend enforcement on ParkByText sites once the company was alerted to the glitch, to ensure no car was incorrectly immobilised.

“The ParkByText customer care centre received an increase in call volumes within this timeframe as customers rang in to confirm/process their parking payment,” the company said.

NCPS are satisfied that the service issue ParkByText experienced has now been fully resolved and customers have not had their vehicle incorrectly immobilised.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers.”
