Willie McAteer after his previous arrest in 2010 Laura Hutton/Photocall Ireland

Former Anglo Irish Bank finance director McAteer released by gardaí

Willie McAteer was not charged and walked free earlier this morning.

THE FORMER FINANCE director at Anglo Irish Bank, Willie McAteer, has been released without charge after he was arrested yesterday.

Gardaí said a file on the case will be prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. The arrest came as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the bank by the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation and the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement.

McAteer, in his 60s, was held at Irishtown garda station until his release earlier this morning. This is the second time he has been arrested.

The Irish Independent reports that former Anglo chairman Seán FitzPatrick is expected to be questioned again by gardaí over the coming days.

FitzPatrick has already been arrested twice, earlier this year and in March 2010.

Anglo Irish Bank has now been officially renamed the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation after merging with Irish Nationwide Building Society.

I’d love to get this cowboy and Fitzpatrick and make them walk up and down every main street in Ireland with a sign apologising to the Irish people for their crimes. Jail, let’s hope so (even though that’s too good for them!)

Never be a prosecution of anyone. who ever backs these plebs current government might aswell blind fold themselves and block their ears so they can neither see or here their people shout out for help and justice. The piper plays and the rats follow.

Smokescreen over. Job done. Shut it down…. wait for next unsecured, unguaranteed bond maturity date. Even Noonan knows this Enda Kenny tactic is not going to last before the population explodes in anger.

Typical cop bashing.. Do you folks not understand the cops only investigate crime. They must complete the file and send it to the DPP for him to direct a charge. He was always going to be released without charge in such a complex investigation.
