Amazon

Amazon's newest Kindle is promising a battery that will last for months

Although it’s likely the price will put many people off.

AMAZON HAS REVEALED the most expensive Kindle device yet, saying it has a battery that will last for months.

Compared to previous models, it’s thinner but comes with a ridge on one side for holding it. This is designed so it can be used with one hand and comes with a rotatable screen to cater for left-handed readers.

The biggest draw is battery life and how it’s been lengthened. The Oasis comes with a leather case which also has a built-in battery. When you combine the two, Amazon says it will give “you months of combined battery life,” compared to the weeks offered by other Kindles.

Both can be charged together, and the Kindle comes with battery saving features like hibernation mode to help extend its lifespan.

However, the device isn’t waterproof, and its €340 pricetag makes it the most expensive Kindle released by the company.

While it’s only available for pre-order, the first batch will arrive at the end of the month, one positive benefit is how the prices for other Kindle devices has dropped because of it.

Alongside the Paperwhite and Voyage version, the basic Kindle now costs €75 should you need a cheaper alternative.

I always claimed to prefer the feel of a real book until I was given a kindle as a gift. I am never without it. I can’t emphasise just how great it is to have a huge library at your fingertips. And I am saving a fortune on books each month.

Exactly. I don’t have a kindle but I read through the kindle app on my phone. Excellent way to fall asleep too as you can comfortably read in a sleeping position in a dark room without trying to keep a book open with one hand, the minute the eyes droop, click it off and off to dreamland. As a person with horrible sleep issues this is wonderful. I may, possibly, never buy a physical book again

Actually dragged one out from behind a ton of damp mildewed old electronics about a week back. No, it wasn’t still charged… but despite it being there for the guts of a decade it charged and started up. It’s no myth that they’re unkillable.

I agree. I have mine now for 4 years. Just checked and I have read 702 book. The battery last for ages and charges very quickly,
Could not do without it. Fantastic for travelling instead of carrying heavy books.
Doesn’t take up too much space and does not collect dust!
    Books also much cheaper.

I’d much rather charge it daily than pay that kind of money. Hand me paper cuts from real books any day!

Wait, so in other words they took a basic Kindle, strapped a bigger battery onto it and charged 5 times the price… I don’t think so, I already have devices that last even longer than that. They’re called books.

I love my 2nd Gen Kindle. It is very handy. no issue with battery at all. Why would I need more battery life when I can just charge it every couple of weeks. Learn to charge people.
Still use real books for science/history/reference however.

I bought the paperwhite about 3 years ago I think it was… one of my best purchases ever. Great device.

I was initially skeptical when they first came out as I loved paper books, but I’m a convert!

I only upgrade at each third generation. Skip 2 generations and take the 3rd if there is a significant movement forward. I don’t need longer battery life. I know how to charge the device.
