Pics: Boston bombing survivor completes marathon with prosthetic blade

Patrick Downes completed the course in five hours, 56 minutes and 46 seconds.

Boston Marathon

BOSTON MARATHON BOMBING survivor Patrick Downes has finished the race on the prosthetic blade he has needed since losing his left leg in the 2013 attacks.

Downes completed the course in five hours, 56 minutes, 46 seconds. He reached the finish line minutes before 2.49pm, when the explosions on Boylston Street three years ago killed three people and wounded hundreds more.

There to greet Downes at the finish line was his wife, Jessica Kensky. She, too, lost her left leg in the 2013 bombings, and had to have her right leg amputated afterwards.

“I feel like I’m celebrating the body that I have left, and it feels spiritual,” Downes told the Boston Globe in the run-up to the marathon. He and Kensky live at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre.

Adrianne Haslet, a professional ballroom dancer, also lost a leg in the attacks and was returning to the course as a runner. She completed the first half of the race in 4:47:17.

props to every single one of them. These pics should send a message to anyone who dares repeat what those two b**tards did 3 years ago.

“You may have taken a piece of ourselves, but you’ll never take any piece of our spirits”.

Sounds a bit corny, but that should be the message.

Why do you keep bringing up ISIS on an article to do with the Boston bombings? Are you defending ISIS?

This banter is all hilarious and all, lads, but the Boston bombing was nothing to do with ISIS.

Well, ISIS didn’t carry out the attack, but it was still Islamic terrorism. Presumably by sending it to ISIS, as the original comment said, you would send the message that we do not bow down to any sort of Islamic terror despite their wishes.

At least you can acknowledge that fact Malachi, authorities at the time said there was no link to any group or organisation with the two Chechen brothers, only that they may have been inspired by Al-Qaeda, ISIS didn’t even exist at the time of these bombings, although the seeds were planted. I think it’s naive to think ISIS will give a damn about this guy, watching his video isn’t going to make them question their objectives, modus operandi, or put down their weapons, we know how strong their resolve is and nothing except terminating them will end that.
