Copy of Proclamation sells for €150,000 at auction

A bundle of keys for the GPO also sold for €3,400.

AN ORIGINAL COPY of the Irish Proclamation has sold for €150,000 at an auction in Dublin today.

The auction, held by Fonsie Mealy auctioneers, is taking place at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin this evening. The copy of the Proclamation is said to have hung in the GPO during the Rising and is among more than 600 items for sale.

It was sold to an anonymous telephone bidder. A bundle of keys for the GPO were also sold this evening for €3,400.

A spokesperson for the auctioneers told TheJournal.ie there was huge interest in today’s sale and particularly in the rare copy of the Proclamation.

    I’d be a bit freaked if I was the seller TBH , considering one sold in NY a few months back for $460 grand
