You can step into the Dublin of 1916 thanks to this new website

An interactive map lets people explore sites such as the GPO, Liberty Hall, St Stephen’s Green and Dublin Castle.

A NEW WEBSITE has been launched that gives people the opportunity to view Dublin as it was in 1916.

Lord Mayor Críona Ní Dhálaigh launched The City and the Rising today. It includes photos and 3D graphics, as well as written information about what took place in various locations in the capital at the time of the Easter Rising.

Ní Dhálaigh described the site as “visually striking, emotionally engaging and highly memorable”.

The website was developed on behalf of the Planning and Property Development Department of Dublin City Council.

Jim Keogan, assistant chief executive of the department, said: “This interactive map created by NOHO Ltd allows users to see how the streets and buildings of the city shaped one of the most important episodes in Irish history.

The sites at Sackville Street, Moore Street, Dublin Castle, St Stephen’s Green and Mount Street Bridge have been reconstructed as 3D virtual environments to give a real life experience of that time.

They should get the people behind Assassin’s Creed. Their recreations are unreal to watch. Revolutionary Paris, Renaissance Rome, medieval Jerusalem , revolutionary America, the West Indies, beautiful and interactive, exteriors, interiors, birds eye, beautifully rendered. Check out Notre Dame! The people behind this website could learn a thing or two.

Yeah well its actually just for you to educate yourself on your own history. If your just here for good graphics maybe go back and play your xbox, i hear they create pointless games that look nice for people with little intelligence.

@Jack, stop being a pr*ck. If they are trying to get users to use it, then it needs to be user friendly.. UIUX is very important and companies pump millions into it.. So this crowd could learn a think or two. A pointless comment about xboxes just shows you up as a moron.

I don’t see how you can describe this attempt to allow people to “see” what it was like in 1916 as “boring”
