John Kasich set to drop out of White House race, paving the way for Trump

Ted Cruz dropped out overnight, leaving the billionaire as the sole remaining Republican candidate.

OHIO GOVERNOR JOHN Kasich will suspend his presidential campaign later today, his campaign told US media – a move that would leave frontrunner Donald Trump as the sole Republican candidate in the White House race.

Kasich’s campaign abruptly canceled an event in the Washington area today and rescheduled a press conference for 5pm (10pm Irish time) in Ohio’s capital Columbus.

Broadcaster MSNBC and others reported that a senior campaign advisor said that appearance would be Kasich’s announcement that he is dropping out of the 2016 race.

Rival Ted Cruz, a conservative senator from Texas, bowed out overnight after Trump’s commanding Indiana win made it far more likely that the real estate billionaire would reach the 1,237 delegates necessary to win the party’s nomination and avoid a contested convention.

The surprise move left Kasich as the sole remaining challenger to Trump, but like Cruz, Kasich is mathematically eliminated from winning the nomination outright.

Really, given how much people on here bash asylum seekers and immigrants I though many of you would agree with Trump’s view on immigration.

What’s wrong with the U.S.A. protecting it’s boarders? I guess if you’re against the unmitigated importation of millions of third worlders whose culture is fundamentally opposed to your own, and are concerned with all the issues that arises from that, you’re “racist”.

No, but if you stay blatantly racist things about Mexican people, for example, that might make you one.

Never mind the fact an expensive wall isn’t going to address the fact that most illegal immigrants arrive legally. But whatever, simplistic solutions seem to be what’s in vogue.

You become an illegal immigrant if you enter the country legally and overstay your permitted entry. That is how most illegal immigrants get into the US and why building a stupid expensive wall is a stupid idea. Even on its own terms it doesn’t address the issue.

Trump. And I don’t like the man but the PC worm has to turn. The US and the western world has to reclaim what made western civilisation great and stop apologising for it. The onslaught of political correctness in our schools, universities government institutions is insidious. All this pandering to minority’s and rights groups has created a monsterous global cabal of obnoxious, entitled, low achievers who’s life’s work is to pull down what better people have built. This pandering has to stop and if I had the vote I’d vote for Trump for that very reason. Apologising for being great (once) is a serious weakness that that if not stopped now, will herald the end of the Western world as we know it.

Society is evolving, perhaps some have gone too far out the other side in the pursuit of equality but the solution isn’t to tear everything down and return to a state of inequality in a bordered world from decades gone past. A middle ground will be reached in time.
Maybe you liked things that way and as a white person in a first world country you likely did but society is progressing and humanity is evolving. There’ll always be people like you opposing it and they’ll always be left behind.

Borders exist for a reason. A country is a reflection of the people who inhabit it, not the other way around. The reason America is such a successful country is the same reason why Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are successful… because it was built by Europeans and was modeled on the European societies they came from. It’s not as if North America has some kind of magical first world generating air and soil that extends from the top of Canada and suddenly stops at the Mexican border. Those countries were built up from nothing by their inhabitants and their ancestors, and they should be the ones who benefit from its prosperity. They don’t have to share it with anyone who didn’t contribute to its success.

@methodical. They don’t have to but they do. And I have yet to see the added value “cultural enrichment” brings to a first world country. Large scale third world immigration does not add value to a host country. Small scale immigration can be a good thing, but large scale beings ghettos, attitudes of entitlement and under achievement which leads to crime. What’s wrong with a host culture welcoming immigrants who can contribute, choosing wisely and avoiding a critical mass situation that breeds resentment and backlash. It baffles me that common sense and proportion have been thrown out the window in the incomprehensible rush to embrace multiculturalism.

@Marg, the whole “Diversity is our strength” or “Multiculturalism works” is pretty much a prime example of “The Big Lie” propaganda technique in action. Tell a big lie, repeat it over and over, and do so shamelessly in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary and eventually, the majority will believe it because they can’t process the idea that anyone could have the audacity to lie so blatantly, and therefore assume that it must be true, and they’re just not intelligent enough to see it. People are pretty much programmed at this point to repeat that there are huge benefits of mass third world immigration to the first world, but they never seem to say what they are, or explain how they’re worth the consequences, because they’ve never thought that far ahead.

I do agree that small scale immigration can be of benefit, if we’re importing people who are willing to integrate and have skills that are needed. There’s this ridiculous notion going around that if we oppose mass immigration, then we must oppose immigration entirely. Nothing could be further from the truth. We just think that the host people shouldn’t suffer for it.

“Apologising for being great (once) is a serious weakness that that if not stopped now, will herald the end of the Western world as we know it.”

There is a very real threat called climate change that is *actually* destroying the world as we know it. Your choice of candidate, Trump, claims it’s something cooked up by the Chinese. Progress is already achingly slow and it’ll be sent careening backwards if Trump is elected. And for what?

I semi-agree. I also however think that many of those voting for Trump in general are low achievers, who blame immigrants or “PC” or the government for all that has gone wrong in their life while crowing about “hard work”, feeling hard done by and how they’re the ones “carrying the country”. The reality is very different of course.

His supporters are the disenfranchised young people who have gotten used to living off the government and believe the only way to get ahead, is to get more free stuff from government. Just as bad when you see Corbyn in the U.K waving at his followers flying the hammer and sickle high, it’s pathetic, absolute fools. These are the people coming out of universities and colleges, completely brainwashed by limp wristed propagandist lecturers and school systems taken over by political correctness and Marxism, dire times indeed.

She has years of baggage and pretty much everyone has left her alone so we can get our first female president. Black president, check! You can not tell me this is the best either party could prop up? At least Trump has started a movement, singl- handedly destroyed political correctness and brought record number voters to the table. This is not over. Meh. I wouldn’t say this is true. The Left are at best, un-enthused, and the Right despise her.

    It’s a very disappointing selection.

“At least Trump has started a movement, singl- handedly destroyed political correctness and brought record number voters to the table. ”

I think people over-egg the “political correctness” thing… the new breed of regressive Left wingers are an easy target, but I’ve no time for the brand of anti-PC which basically equates to “I want a free pass to insult whoever I like”. And that’s all I’ve seen from Trump. It’s incredibly off-putting for anyone who values intelligence in their politics. But I guess this is the logical end game of politics becoming a TV contest.

Nope – Political correctness is far worse than insulting whoever you like or implied racism. In America the race card is played 53 times out of a deck of 52. It’s the cheat that wins a debate on nearly any subject and liberals increasingly use it as a weapon.

There is definitely something resonating with certain people in the western world with the attack on political correctness. I was taken aback by UKIPs prominence even if it did end in failure during the elections. Then trump came along and blew this political correctness out of the water. Even the revolt on immigrants in Germany was very surprising.

What I am referring to in relation to Political correctness is tackling issues such as immigration, minority pandering and as Trump actually said ‘apologising for being great’. Although I’m not familiar with American politics I don’t think Trump would be a very good person to be president. however the tide of political attacks, raising serious issues and putting them on the table has been a welcome addition to Western politics that i think for the last few years has been lacking a cross the board.
