Men armed with gun and sledgehammer steal large amount of cash from shop

They fled the scene in a car, which was later found on fire in a field.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING a robbery that occurred at a convenience shop and post office in Clogherhead, Co Louth on Tuesday.

Three men entered the shop at about 3.40pm. They were carrying a firearm, a sledgehammer and a metal bar.

All three men were wearing high-visibility jackets. They threatened staff and left the scene with a large amount of cash.

They fled in a blue Audi A3 car, which had the partial registration of 00-RN.

Local gardaí were on the scene within minutes.

Car on fire

A search of the area was carried out with the assistance of garda units from Drogheda and elsewhere within the Louth division. The car was located, on fire, in a field at Coast Road, Callystown, Clogherhead a short time later.

It is believed the culprits left this area in a silver Skoda that was parked at the entrance to this field. This car was being driven by a female with red hair.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Drogheda garda station on 041 9874200, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or via any garda station.
