AN INVESTIGATION IS underway after a woman in her 50s died suddenly at the Áras Attracta care home in Mayo.

Gardaí are investigating as they would any sudden death and say the investigation direction will be decided by the results of a post mortem.

The centre was the focus of an RTÉ PrimeTime show which highlighted poor care standards and abuse of patients.

The HSE wishes to express our sincere condolences to the resident’s family.

The HSE also confirmed that in accordance with national policy, a senior safety incident management team is being convened, chaired by Chief Officer Tony Canavan.
