MAJOR TRAFFIC DISRUPTIONS are expected in Galway city centre this afternoon following the collapse of a drainage culvert at a street junction.

Galway City Council has shut off Flood Street, St Augustine Street, and Middle Street in the vicinity of Spanish Arch while engineering crews deal with the issue.

The closures are expected to affect traffic in the city to a major extent in the coming hours.

Galway Bay FM reports that the city council are hopeful of completing the necessary repair work by the end of the day, but this may prove problematic as the maintenance required involves the sourcing and installation of specialist steel plates.

Why bother when you can do a screenshot from google maps?

You’d cover the hole with a newspaper. Was there 6 hrs ago and it had a sheet of metal over it amd a bit of new tar. Cars can still drive by it. Not exactly big but probably just closed off as a precaution. Open to traffoc by then.

Money doesn’t necessarily give them the ability to predict the appearance of holes, does it?
