THE MAJORITY OF Irish people have no confidence in the new cabinet formed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

The new ministerial group was assembled last Friday after Enda Kenny finally gained enough votes to be re-elected as Taoiseach at the fourth attempt, the first Fine Gael Taoiseach to accomplish the feat.

The findings are contained in a Claire Byrne Live/Amárach Research poll for TheJournal.ie ahead of the new cabinet meeting for the first time this morning at 10.30am.

Only 21% of those asked expressed confidence in the new cabinet. 55% said they have no confidence in their new ministers, while 24% didn’t know.

The new grouping has slightly more support among men (24%) than women (18%).

Munster is the geographical area with least confidence in the new cabinet (18%), with 23%  of the asked people in the Dublin area expressing confidence, the highest seen in any geographical area.

A lack of confidence is most prevalent among 45 to 54-year-olds with 61% saying they felt that way.

27% of those aged 55 or greater expressed confidence in our new ministers, the highest such expression of any age grouping asked.

The poll was conducted by Amárach Research on Monday, 10 May. The survey panel comprises more than 1,000 adults who all own a smartphone. More details here.
