Four charged with attempted murder after police car torched in France

The incident happened earlier this week and has been branded “anti-cop hatred”.

FOUR MEN WERE charged with attempted murder yesterday over the torching of a police car while two officers were inside during a protest in Paris this week, prosecutors said.

The incident, which was caught on camera and widely shared on social media, occurred on Wednesday on the sidelines of a rare demonstration by French police against “anti-cop hatred”.

The footage shows a small group of masked protesters hammering the police vehicle with iron bars, smashing its windows before hurling in an explosive device that quickly fills the car with smoke and engulfs it in flames.

The policeman and policewoman inside were able to escape unharmed.

The four suspects, who are members of an anti-fascist movement and whose ages range from 18 to 32 years, were arrested on Thursday.

They are also accused of carrying out an armed attack against public officers, destroying public property and of participating in an armed group.

“Investigations are continuing to determine their exact roles in the incident, and whether any other possible suspects should be arrested,” the prosecutor’s office in Paris said after the charges were read out by an investigating judge.

Prime Minister Manuel Valls earlier this week strongly condemned the police car attack, saying the punishment “must be harsh”.

Violence has marred a number of protests across France in recent weeks — often against controversial labour reforms proposed by the deeply unpopular government of President Francois Hollande.

Much of the unrest has been blamed on small groups of troublemakers who appear bent on targeting the security services.

Over the past two months, some 350 members of the security forces have been injured during protests against the proposed labour reforms, which were forced through the lower house of parliament last week without a vote.

Anti-fascist used to be a good thing. The same way feminism used to be a good thing. Now they’re just forms of doublespeak.

    You’re referring to Clare, right?

She gets caught by the Gardaí. Then she launches a one-woman crusade, using her position as a TD to seek revenge.

I think David misspelled his own surname as he frantically logged on to the journal.ie to smear Clare Daly. Not willing to his face to his comments either. There’s a smell of bacon of this chap.

David, i’d be specifically referring to the leaking of her arrest to the media and the idiotic detective that tried to bully her on twitter.

Set in context of the deeper problems and controversies with the organisation I think Clare is doing a good job as a public servant.

David’s hate of Clare Daly clouds his judgement of how a Garda should behave…….he suffers from the same kind of hate that lead that Garda to disgrace the force.

If the cops were as corrupt as Clare Daly says they were they could of easily stitched her up but they didn’t. They rightly stopped her for making an illegal turn. She no doubt gave them a load of guff as she sees her self as been above the law like all good lefties and there was a smell of booze of her. Despite this after arresting her and taking a second breath test at the station she was released without charge. Her only complaint is the press got wind of this before she got a chance to give Mick Cliifford the exclusive. This is what Clare seems to think is police corruption. Laughable when you think about it.

yea corruption implies a certain amount of intelligence and guile.

The detective who used twitter to bully Clare was caught so obviously he is too incompetent and thick to be properly corrupt.

He trolled her with the info she released to the press nothing he got confidentially. Freedom of speech and expression. He used no abusive language or aggression. To be honest because he’s a Garda he should keep his mouth shut? Sounds like something a repressive banana republic would enforce. This would stop honest police whistle blowing on real corruption in the force or in governments and allow graft to thrive. Then again maybe Ireland has reverted to banana republic.

Not only that, he was incredibly restrained, I think French police are armed. In the states he would have shot him dead, citing being assaulted with a deadly weapon. Can’t compliment his common sense. He would have incited and fuelled the fire of the anti police protest. When the cop was supporting the anti cop hatred. Bravo my good man.

How did a story about a police car getting torched in France turn into a discussion about Clare Daly? And young Muiris, your bacon comment implies that you see the police as pigs. What do you do for a living?
