THE DISNEY MAGIC cruiseliner arrived in Dublin early this morning, carrying with it over 3,600 people.

The ship is making the journey from Port Canaveral in Florida to Dover in England as part of a 12 night transatlantic cruise.

There are 11 decks on the ship and those taking part in the voyage were today given a Cruise Dublin Visitor Pass to allow them explore the city before the ship departs again at 5.30pm.

The ship arrived this morning at about 5.30am and passengers were greeted by what Dublin Port described as a “Game of Thrones inspired entertainment spectacle”.

The ship is 300m long making it just about the right size to be able to both enter and turn around within the River Liffey.

Dublin Port recently began a €230 million upgrade project that will extend capacity and allow larger ships further up the mouth of the river to the Thomas Clarke Bridge.

The company says that Disney Magic is one of 113 cruise calls at Dublin Port this year, making it the busiest ever year for cruise travel.

25 years ago, about 4 million people a year went on cruises. Now, it’s over 25 million. The fastest growing leisure activity – and one for which Dublin is well suited.

I worked on cruise ships and went around the world. Dublin really needs to give its cruise port a facelift to be more welcoming to tourists as its their first impression of the place. Saying that we docked in Dublin and the passengers loved the place!

A 5 night cruise in low season in the Caribbean is about $1200 dollaredoos with a windowless cabin! Ain’t one of the cheaper options out there by a long shot!

A bunch of lads wearing kilts banging drums is hardly a Game of Thrones welcome. It’s not like it was a trial by combat. I doubt the passengers appreciated being woken up to that at 5:30 in the morning.

imagine your first stop from Florida was Dublin, you would never do a Cruise again. then again i did the Disney Dream last year around the Caribbean and the Nassau Bahamas seemed just as bad only with the Sun.
