TALLAGHT-BASED GLOBAL SOFTWARE firm Fleetmatics will dramatically expand its local team after posting a major hike in revenue last year.
The New York-listed company said it planned to hire another 75 research-and-development staff in Dublin by 2018, when it expected its local workforce to hit over 200.
Globally the firm, which provides fleet-management and other mobile-workforce software, now employs over 1,200 people after starting out with less than a dozen staff in its Templeogue office in 2004.
Fleetmatix’s Dublin-based co-founder and chief technology officer, Peter Mitchell, said it was “important that we continue to invest here where it all began” as the company grew.
“Here in Ireland we are spoiled with an incredible talent pool in research and development … they get to be involved in a great Irish tech story,” he said.
The company will also develop a new network operations centre in Tallaght as part of the expansion plans. It has an estimated 37,000 customers in all the major English-speaking markets, as well as mainland Europe and Mexico.
Last year it bought smaller rivals in Italy and France as it spread its footprint on the continent.
Fleetmatics was formed in a merger between local companies Moviltec and WebSoft and in 2012 it went public, raising $132 million in the process. Today its market value sits at around $1.8 billion.
Last year the company delivered revenue of nearly $285 million, up almost one-quarter on 2014, for a net income of just under $39 million.

Great news. Good to see tech jobs created outside the Dublin Docklands.
This is brilliant news ,its great to see a indigenous company being successful and growing to this level. i know someone who works there and it seems to be a great place to work.No sign of our resident hard left whiners on this thread, success stories are alien to their entitlement ideology . Fair play to the founders who have developed a great company, they are people who actually got up and created something unlike the hardleft who only moan and never actually contribute anything to society

Good for them,bet they don’t employ ex public sector employees,on the other hand no one is daft enough to leave the public sector money for old rope and you can’t get fired.
