That road has bizarrely got a 100km/h speed limit on it, despite the fact it is an R road and there are parts where I have seen 2 trucks have to come to a halt before they pass.

    RIP

There is a debate to be had about the condition of rural roads and the contribution they make towards road deaths each year. The only factors discussed by the RSA are fatigue, tyre condition, speed and driver error. No mention is made of poor road surface, road straightening and widening which is also a big factor in road deaths. My thoughts are with that man’s family RIP

@ don golden the road itself is in good condition as its been resurfaced but there are many twists & blind corners on one particular part coming up the hill on either side & its very easy to loose control there seen it a few times & one time my brother got a bad skid in ice there trying to avoid a deer…

Could not agree more with you. But the RSA will not comment on that! They are a government agency after all.

It is a very busy road that is badly marked with poor signage. There have been far too many crashes there. I pity any tourist whose satnav sends them on is as the shortest route from banter to cork city. R.i.p.

Have family living in Kealkill so we would come that road on a regular basis & its lethal as there are a lot of bends & blind corners on it & can very easily loose control of yourself there… R.I.P to the poor man & condolences to his family.. Another life claimed on our irish roads…

It was my father who crashed and was with him when it happened. Thank you for the kind words and thoughts in previous comments. I was able to control my bike that day as the corner does suddenly appear without warning. We were both taking in the view that day before seeing it tighten suddenly with out any chevrons or barrier to warn us what was coming up. Maybe my father would be still with us today if there was plenty of waning??

It was my father killed in the accident and was with him when it happened. The only warning is a small arrow up the road. I spoke with the Garda recently and mentioned If any better warnings and protection have gone into those corners? I was told that speed ripples and better signage have been spoken about to make it all safer. Hopefully this will help to stop another loss.
