There has been an increase in sexual assaults and a decrease in burglaries

There were more than 10,000 fewer burglary and theft-related offences in the 12 months to March 2016.

THERE WAS A rise in the number of assaults and sexual offences reported in the 12 months up to March of this year, but a decrease in burglaries.

New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show there was an annual increase of 1,094 (+6.9%) records of attempts or threats to murder, assaults, harassments and related offences, compared to the same period in 2015.

Some 175 more sexual offences (+8.2%) were recorded, and one additional homicide (+1.6%).

There were more than 10,000 fewer burglary and theft-related offences in the same period. An Garda Síochána has been cracking down on burglaries through Operation Thor.

crime CSO CSO

In the 12-month period ending in March 2016, there were 37 recorded murder and manslaughter offences, the same number as in the previous 12 months. Dangerous driving leading to death increased by one offence over the same period.

murder CSO CSO

There were 23,377 recorded burglary and related offences, a fall of 5,265 (-18.4%) when compared with the previous 12 months.

This was mostly accounted for by an 18.4% decrease in recorded burglary offences. The number of aggravated burglary offences and possession of an article (with intent to burgle, steal, demand) also decreased.

The total theft and related offences dropped by 7% to 73,306, a decrease of 5,535 incidents. The CSO said this was largely driven by a sharp decrease in incidents classed as ‘theft of vehicle’ (down 1,618 or 21.3%) and ‘other’ thefts (down 4,534 or 10.3%). There were increases in the numbers of ‘theft from person’ and ‘theft from shop’ offences.

A total of 15,581 controlled drug offences were recorded in the same period, almost no change from the previous 12 months (+0.1%). The largest change in the subcategories was in cultivation or manufacture of drugs, which fell by 84 offences (-25.7%).

Shocking amount of deaths by dangerous driving. Sure what do you expect when you kill someone whilst banned from driving and you flee the scene and you only get a couple of years. No deterrent.

There is a decrease in the amount of “reported” burglaries. A lot of people don’t even bother to report them anymore

There was always a large amount of people who didn’t report crimes to the Gardai. That’s nothing new. Now everyone has phones it is easier than ever to report crimes.

It’s amazing the results that happen when resources are but into tackling crime. Those involved in operation Thor should be congratulated but the fact CAB have not followed up and recovered assets is a bit disappointing. The backroom staff that launder monies for these gangs are not being effected. Is money laundering even a crime on this island or just a source of income for banks. 30% of the property market is cash buyers without any questions asked? Like Bertie are crimmials winning money on horses then investing in property. Curroption in public office or acts of cronyism by a traitor don’t seem to be mentioned maybe b cause privilege makes these crimes redundant when politician control our justice system.

The increase in sexual assaults reported could be attributed to the general broadening of the perceived meaning of what sexual assault is. With all this safe space and micro agression nonsense filtering into this country, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these incidents are mere cat calling and wolf whistling.

if we petition to sack people like Judge Nolan, and replace him with somebody with a brain, then we would be one step towards success
