POLICE IN NORTH Belfast are investigating after two women were targeted in a racially motivated hate crime over the weekend.
At around 6pm on Saturday evening, the women were verbally abused by a man using racist language as they walked to their parked car on Kent Street.
The women got into the car and drove from the area but later noticed damage to the passenger side of the vehicle.
A man was arrested in relation to the incident and was subsequently released pending further enquiries.
It comes after there was an increase in reported racist incidents that have occurred in the wake of the UK’s decision to leave the EU last week.
Constable Shane Burdin said, “ We are treating this incident as a racially motivated hate crime and I would appeal for anyone with any information which could assist us with our inquiries to contact officers at Tennent Street on 101 quoting reference 617 26/06/16.
“Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Military Intelligence & CID were based in Oriel House – A common mistake made over the years by republicans is to say the Squad ended up being the murder gang in Oriel House. The funny thing is very few of the Squad had connections with Oriel House – only Paddy ‘Specky’ Griffin‘s name has been associated with the place in its early days. Nevertheless, it’s widely known that torture was used in Oriel House and men were murdered by members of the CID. Equally men were murdered and tortured by Dev’s men. It was a brutal Civil War.
