Dublin Bus has said that it's NOT changing the 27b bus route*

*At least not for the time being, anyway.

DUBLIN BUS HAS announced that it won’t be implementing the proposed changes to the 27b bus route, which were due to come into effect later this month.

TheJournal.ie reported earlier this week about the anger many local residents and a number of public representatives felt at the upcoming changes.

The route, which runs from Harristown Garage to Eden Quay in Dublin city centre, was set to lose a two-mile stretch of itself from Sunday 10 July.

The change would have seen the route begin and terminate from the Oscar Traynor Road, as opposed to Harristown Garage – in effect cutting off Santry village from nearby Beaumont Hospital.

Dublin Bus said that the change was to “deliver a more direct, high frequency and reliable bus service with improved cross-city connections” to Dublin city.

Now, however, plans for the route change have been put on ice.

Dublin Bus announced yesterday that the planned route change was “temporarily suspended.”

“A big positive”

Local People Before Profit councillor John Lyons, who and objected to the proposed changes, said that the decision was “a big positive”.

“They haven’t completely abandoned the plan but they have suspended it so that’s good,” he said.

While it wasn’t immediately clear why Dublin Bus has decided to postpone the changes to the route, Lyons said that he hoped it meant the management had been listening to the concerns of customers.

“I would hope that the management have been a bit more responsive,” he said.

There was a fair bit of pressure put on them and you would hope that we had an effect.

Lyons also said that the bus drivers had made it clear that they weren’t happy with the route changes and that the reason not enact them was “just common sense prevailing”.

TheJournal.ie has contacted Dublin Bus to determine why the changes have been postponed and if it is a permanent of temporary measure. No reply was forthcoming at the time of publication.

They like to do things that suits them and not the customers. Love to know the exact reasons for the change they want. A drivers Sunday roast break.

It might have had something to do with fact that bus journeys in Dublin often go take ages due to their convoluted routes.

I love those endearing Management bullshit terms – reliability, customer friendly, sustainability, efficiency, the list goes on & on.

Dublin bus is a useless quango that only exists for the benefit of the drivers. I live near the 27 bus route and at times they’re so rare that when the bus appears it’s like a mirage

The 27 is probably one of the least rare bus routes in their fleet.

It is. More people would be affected by this than the population of Leitrim. Important it gets coverage.
