Four arrests in connection with attempted armed robbery of Cork bank

Two men attempted to rob a Bank of Ireland in Glanmire last August.

THREE MEN AND a woman have been arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery of a bank in Cork last August.

The three men and women, aged in their 20s and 30s, were arrested this morning following an operation in Cork City and East Cork by Gardaí from Cobh and Middleton.

On the 5 August, two men wearing balaclavas and armed with a shotgun and a sledgehammer attempted a raid when a G4 Securicor van pulled up outside a branch of Bank of Ireland at the Hazelwood Centre in Glanmire, Co Cork.

Both men fled empty-handed following a struggle with staff. Their escape car was later found abandoned and on fire near Windsor Hill two miles away.

The men and woman are currently being detained under section 30 of the Offences against the State Act at Cobh and Middleton Garda stations.
