13-year-old in critical condition after taking suspected MDMA

Greater Manchester Police said that they had arrested a 15-year-old yesterday in relation to the incident.

A 15-YEAR-OLD has been arrested and a 13-year-old remains in a critical condition after taking what is believed to have been MDMA on Saturday in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said that they had arrested the 15-year-old yesterday on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs and perverting the course of justice.

Police were called to Timperley Metrolink station in Manchester at about 4.30pm on Saturday after a teenage boy became unwell.

He was rushed to hospital where police say he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Police say they believe he took the drug MDMA but that tests are still being carried out.

Detective Inspector Carl Gilbert, from GMP’s Trafford borough said that the case was “another example of the consequences of taking drugs”.

“Sadly this is another example of the consequences of taking drugs and I would urge anyone who is tempted to take drugs to stop and think about the implications,” he said.

You don’t know what they contain or how they could affect you, so please don’t risk it.

Gilbert also urged anyone who was possession of the drugs to hand them into police.

“If anyone is in possession of these drugs I would urge them to hand them in to the police and if you have taken any then please go to hospital immediately as a precaution to get yourself checked over,” he said.

The incident follows a similar one in Manchester last month where three 12-year-old girls became ill after taking ecstasy.

Gilbert appealed for anyone with information over the incident to come forward and contact police on 101.

“Our thoughts remain with the boy’s family at this difficult time,” he said.

Note to Journal staff: if you’re copying and pasting a story from a UK source, there’s no point saying something like ‘contact police on 101′. Even on the off-chance that somebody was in Manchester at the time and saw something, and is now over here, the 101 number simply won’t work.

Yeah well, I daresay 90-something per cent of readership is here in Ireland. And even for those overseas readers, the 101 number won’t contact police either, unless they’re actually in the UK. Suppose someone was in Manchester yesterday but flew to New York last night? If they do want to include a phone number, taking two minutes to look up the international code and local land line number – that you could actually call from anywhere – would surely be much more useful.

No, i mean that you will hear the usual “drugs are bad” comments anytime a story like this is reported on (even before knowing the full facts), yet considering the amount of recreational drug use in this country there are very few deaths as a result.

They don’t do stories on every single person who dies from recreational drug use. How many people die from heart related issues weeks or months after doing dodgy coke or pills. Do coke or pills every weekend for a few years and you’ll be lucky to see out your 40′s.

Well maybe everytime a death from recreational drug use can be confirmed; it should be reported. Do then same with deaths from cigarettes and alcohol while they’re at it.

Are you serious Vincent? You don’t hear about alcohol and smoking-related deaths because they happen so often, no because it’s rare.

When people die from pills sold as ecstasy it’s headline news because it rarely happens.

The politicians have a lot to answer for. They are aware that by legalising they could regulate providers and quality. Won’t happen because of public image and too many other selfish factors.

Without a doubt John B. Prohibition didn’t stop people getting alcohol, it did make it more dangerous though and placed in the control of criminals. Does that honestly not make logical sense to you?

Legal = safer more regulated contents. Some people would still die sure, some will have a heart condition they don’t know about. But far less. Plus if war on drugs can’t even stop a 13 year old getting a drug it’s a failure..

If we legalize, more, not less14 year olds will use them. Thus we can expect more harm rather than less. Look at alcohol: how freely available it is and the amount of teens that have problems. Why do we need more drugs available?

Two things, drugs are already available, and in the Netherlands where drugs are more freely available it seems fewer people are using them. You don’t have to trust me, there’s a whole world of knowledge on the interweb. Btw, I am in favour of more sensible laws and am not a user of any presently illegal drugs.
