THE FUNERAL OF murdered Labour MP Jo Cox has taken place this afternoon.
Cox was shot twice and stabbed close to a library near Leeds on 16 June.
The MP for Batley and Spen had been hosting an advice clinic at a library in Birstall, Yorkshire when she was grabbed by the hair and attacked by 52-year-old Thomas Mair.

Prior to her funeral today, and in the aftermath of last night’s terror attack in Nice which left 84 people dead, her husband Brendan tweeted an emotional tribute to his wife:
“Jo would ask us not to fight hate with hate but draw together to drain the swamp that extremism breeds in,” he said.
“Thinking of all victims of hatred today.”
Cox’s constituents of Batley and Spen turned out in force for the funeral cortege, with thousands lining the streets of Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, where she grew up.
As her hearse passed, children from a primary school threw white roses at the cortege.
The funeral itself was a private, family ceremony.
In Batley, the town which Cox represented, a message was attached in a plastic wallet on a lamp-post.
It said simply: “Today I pledge to #LoveLikeJo I will.”
One constituent, Janet Hartley, told the Guardian she had been left “devastated” by her killing.
“Other politicians get other people to do it but she came herself,” 57-year-old Hartley said of a meeting she had with Cox prior to last year’s UK general election.
She took time to listen to you, even if you were telling her about quite personal, private things that had nothing to do with the government.”

Thomas Mair was arrested and charged with Jo Cox’s murder two days after she died.
His trial begins in November.
Cox had been elected to Parliament at the first time of asking after last year’s election.
She lived with her husband Brendan and their two children, aged three and five, on a houseboat moored on the River Thames in London, close to the city’s iconic Tower Bridge.

The Rotherham grooming gangs operated within Cox’s constituency. Cox. For such a staunch advocate of multiculturalism and feminism Cox never once made any kind of statement on that issue.
Her murderer was a radicalised xenophobic bigot, emboldened by the likes of Britain First and UKIP’s hateful rhetoric. Reducing her decency to an insult like “SJW” is pathetic and shameful.
But coming from you, not surprising in the slightest.

Although I believe that a deceased person should not be immune from criticism (I don’t believe in “not speaking ill of the dead”), there is no evidence that Jo Cox did not care about the girls who were raped by some Muslim men in Rotherham. Was she asked to comment on the cases after legal proceedings were concluded?
Even if she didn’t comment on those cases, it doesn’t mean that she didn’t care about the victims. I believe that she would have been happy to help the victims if they or their families had asked her to do so.
Nothing new there Welshhibby, the regressive left are all the same. They cannot accept the difference between words and deeds either.
Daisy, I fully agree that the murderer was a radicalised xenophobic bigoted and racist deranged psychopath, but do not lump UK Independence Party in with Britain First. Big difference and not everything is as black and white as you might wish or think. This was a very serious attack on democracy and Far Right radicalism is being taken as seriously in the UK as Islamic radicalisation. The only difference is that the latter is more extensive and irreproachable than the former.

I suspect that what Jo Cox said or didn’t say about the Rotherham rapes is the last thing on the minds of the victims. For Pete’s sake, do you not know that Jo was a mother?! If someone had done something wrong to her children she would have fought tooth and nail to have the perpetrator brought to justice. If the victims and their families had asked her to fight for them, she would have.
This is not a defence of pinko lefties; it’s a defence of the reputation of an innocent woman.
Very sad.
And let us not forget the appalling manner with which the Remain camp tried to politicise her death by demonising those on the exit side in the Brexit referendum.
Absolutely despicable.
The fact that it backfired completely just makes the tragedy of her death even more poignant.

Well the people have spoken now……the job is done…..and Europe will benefit as a consequence.

The mere fact that her name was mentioned was enough for the Brexiters to accuse people of using her name to bolster the remain campaign. The internet comments made by them started off – “It was very sad, but”, before slagging her off. They wanted the whole incident swept under the carpet, and were only peed off that they couldn’t capitalize on the incident, the deed having been carried out by a neo-Nazi nut-job Brexit supporter.
