There are no trains running between Dublin and Dun Laoghaire today

Major works are taking place on the line in south Dublin today.

ALL RAIL SERVICES between Connolly Station and Dun Laoghaire, in the south of the county, are off today.

It’s to allow for works on the line – including resignalling and alterations to track layout at Grand Canal Dock station, in the south city.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • No DART services will operate between Connolly and Dun Laoghaire. Dublin Bus will accept rail tickets for customers travelling between the city and southside stations.
  • DART services will operate between Howth/Malahide and Connolly – and between Dun Laoghaire and Bray/Greystones.
  • Rosslare Europort – Dublin services will operate with bus transfers between Bray and Dublin Connolly in both directions.
  • Drogheda and Maynooth Commuter services will operate to/from Dublin Connolly Station only.

New layout

According to Irish Rail, the works today involve the final commissioning of the latest phase of new signalling under the City Centre Resignalling Project, as well as the track alterations at Grand Canal Dock.

The project will result in northbound Darts and commuter trains calling to platform 1 in Grand Canal Dock instead of platform 2.

Platform 2 will instead be used as a terminus point for new Kildare line to Grand Canal Dock services – which will be introduced towards the end of the year following completion of the upgrade to the Phoenix Park Tunnel line.

Says an Irish Rail statement:

This phase of resignalling covers Connolly to Sandymount, and is an essential prerequisite for the introduction of the new Kildare line to Grand Canal Dock services which the Phoenix Park Tunnel project will facilitate.

Here’s the company’s video explainer of what’s going on:

Off peak? How about working nights like other countries. Go to Spain and the JCBs are running from midnight. Actual off peak. Against the precious union rules I guess. Aul Jim won’t work a minute past 5 or a minute before 9. Very mature yea. Get your house in order lads. This is a farce

Maybe you want drilling and compressors hammering away outside your house all night, but I think most people would object. Besides, this article is about other people working through Sunday to improve our public transport. Good for them.

@ray: I live next to an Irish Rail access point. I live with the machines running overnight. Recently I had the wonderful sound of a dozen chainsaws outside my bedroom window from midnight to 5 am.

Sometimes though the scale of work requires days, and weekends are the best time for it.

I don’t see why you were thumbed down. I totally agree with you. In French and in France all railway work is done at night

Although the sun is shining all is not well in the world…the Dublin to Dun Laoghaire train is not running…a service first started in 1834. Long may it last.

Decent enough bus service if you want to get to Dun Laoghaire today so it’s hardly end of days stuff here.

Oh yeah because someone in Irish Rail woke up early this morn and said Feck the Weather let’s partially close the line? A little more forward planning may have been involved in this decision than your self absorbed inconvenience because the weather suits you to go to Dun Laoghaire. I saw notifications about it last week at Tara and Connolly

Aw poor Ray, it’s all about you, isn’t it? Have the buses stopped running too? 2 solpadol and you’ll be better soon. Perhaps Irish Rail should consult with Danny HealyRae to ensure that it rains the next time maintenance is required. ..

My point is more towards off peak being actual off peak and not towards the one in a million sunny Sunday we get. Essential public works like this should be done at night end of. Some people kept awake better than thousands affected today. That sound self absorbed or immature enough.

    Ray

As you ask I think more immature that self absorbed. Although there would also be thousands impacted by the noise it would also be significantly more expensive. By doing it in a Sunday it is safer and more cost effective while the people wanting to travel have an alternative form of transport available.
