IF YOU’RE NEAR Dublin city centre, you might have heard a loud noise earlier this afternoon.
These Italian fighter jets flew low over the city just after 3.30pm, releasing tricolour smoke as they passed.
The group is Frecce Tricolori, one of the aerobatic teams performing at Bray Air Display, and were on their way to Baldonnel Aerodrome ahead of the big event.
They were proceeded by the Spitfire, a World War II fighter plane.
You’ll also spot the Red Arrows, the Breitling Wingwalkers and the Irish Air Corps at the festival, along with others.

I remember watching an interview on top gear with Brian Cox and he was in a Euro fighter typhoon (English) and the pilot was heading toward Ireland at speed and suddenly broke off, Cox asked him why he slowed down and turned abruptly the pilot responded by saying were nearly in Irish air space they might sh!t themselves and send there Cessna after us if we don’t turn away. It just reminded me of how weak our country is on defence.
They turned away didn’t they?

The planes have been flying over my house all day practising. Driving the dog mad as she thinks she should go out & bark at them.

Get your facts right please. NOT fighter jets, but MB-326 jet trainers. And not “an” Italian aerobatic display team, THE Italian aerobatic display team.
Technically it is marketed as a trainer and a light attack aircraft!

Let’s break it down.
1.) they are jets
2.) your starting a fight over their description
Therefore they’re indeed fighter jets
Don, any jet with offensive capabilities is a fighter jet. The A10 is no f15 but it is a fighter jet an A5 Skyhawks is not a million miles from BAE hawk and it was a fighter jet!
No Wayne. A fighter jet is about air dominance and air superiority. The Warthog was designed as an anti- tank aircraft and ended up being a CAS aircraft. The Skyhawk was a light bomber. You might as well stick a couple of Sidewinders on a PC-9.and call it a fighter.
That’s not accurate Wayne. A fighter jet is an aircraft that’s designed to engage enemy aircraft as it’s primary mission. The MB-326 is a training aircraft with the ability to carry a small payload of bombs or 2 machine guns which is utterly inadequate for fighting other aircraft, therefore under no circumstance does it fit the description of a fighter.
The A-10 is not a fighter jet nor has it ever been described as one.

Jason, I am well aware of the A10′s role as the first purpose. Don, it was actually designed as CAS in its primary role, it was a request from the army and the only reason the Air Force developed it, was they feared losing budget to the developing cobra. In fact the Air Force hated it for most of its service life!
Your average person does not differentiate between a CAS, air superiority it Ground attack aircraft. The strict military definition has long since evolved outside of service personnel to include jets beyond the true military definition and more so for the general public

Nuclear war, given the fact that NATO would never tolerate such a move and it would just escalate from there. Besides, the Russians simply don’t have the hardware to pull that off even if they were insane enough to try.

Get your eyesight checked out, you might have a form of colourblindness. Some people cannot recognise red or orange when it’s mixed in with green, like not being able to see strawberries in a field of strawberries.

Red arrows are actually red, that are both over for the airshow
Well technically Italy iis east of the UK.
Watch the Red Arrows display at Bray. You’ll spot the difference quite easily. Presume they’ll draw the big heart in the sky. Shame that Vulcan XH558 is no longer flying, that wonderful to watch. Soon to be replaced by a Canberra, which is now being worked on.
Red Arrows are based at RAF Scampton…the old base of RAF 617 Squadron, the ‘Dambusters”.
