AN IRISHMAN HAS been arrested in Rio de Janeiro on suspicion of ticket touting at the Olympics.
It’s reported that he was arrested at a hotel on Friday after allegedly selling tickets at above face value for the opening ceremony of the games.
The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is providing consular assistance.
The Brazilian newspaper Estadao reports that the judge in the case issued a warrant for a search of the man’s possessions.
The man has been refused bail and is being held at a detention centre in Rio.

Serves him right . If only the authorities adopted the same stance towards ticket touts in this country. They are nothing better then parasites .

I honestly can’t see why this is a crime is it not just basic economics? He has something that people want so he sells it at the best price he can get, where is the crime?

Loads of things unexplained in this article. I can look up How many tickets was he touting and the margin he scalped people for. But, on the streets of Rio? How come he wasn’t mugged? And is this *why* so many events are low on an audience? The London Olympics had a raffle system, was that maybe fairer to people booking tickets?
Not like Ireland he will go to jail.
Maybe some Irish mother will get her local TD to get him out.
