Armed men abduct up to 16 people from popular tourist destination in Mexico

The group was taken from an upscale restaurant in Puerto Vallarta.

AUTHORITIES IN MEXICO say armed men have abducted a number of people from an upscale restaurant in the popular beach resort city of Puerto Vallarta.

Prosecutors in the western state of Jalisco say two SUVs carrying an unknown number of gunmen arrived at around 1am (7am Irish time) at the La Leche restaurant on the city’s main boulevard, which runs through the hotel zone between the old beach city and the airport.

The office said in a statement that it is still investigating.

Five vehicles were abandoned at the restaurant, but it is unclear whether they belonged to any of the victims or attackers.

Mexican media reports said as many as 16 people were abducted, but authorities did not immediately confirm the number.

Jalisco Governor Aristoteles Sandoval said through his official Twitter account that such violence would not be tolerated and a search is underway for the victims and the kidnappers.

“To the residents and tourists of Puerto Vallarta, I inform you that we have reinforced security so that you can go on as usual,” Sandoval wrote.

People really don’t get how bad the Mexican cartels are. They’re as bad as ISIS. They just aren’t presented to us like ISIS are. Crazy, crazy people. Feel so bad for those tourists. Horrifying stuff.

I’d say the abandoned vehicles belonged to the kidnapped.

Hey Declan, I’m 28 year old from Sligo living in Mexico City for over a year now. There are definitely lots of places that you shouldn’t visit but also many places where you won’t have any trouble at all!! Generally, as is likely the case with this article, the only people involved are the gangs (just like what happens in Limerick or Dublin). Also you should remember that México is a country which could fit Ireland into it a bit 11 or 12 times (at least), not visiting the country because of some of the bad parts would be like tourists avoiding Dublin cos they don’t like the look of people from Leitrim – but literally exaggerated x10. If you come just keep your wits about you and listen to any advice you’re given about whats OK and what is a no go and you’ll be grand!! LIVE IT TO BELIEVE IT!!

Spent a couple of weeks between Mexico city and guanajuato. Amazing place especially with the aztec and toltec history. Although don’t think I’ll hurry back to the museum of the dead. (Don’t keep paying for your grave and your mummified remains end up in the museum)

There is a possibility that “El Chapo’s” son is in the kidnapped group… so this is a cartel v cartel crime.
