They were stopped on the M1 just south of the border.

THREE PEOPLE HAVE been arrested and around €210,000 worth of heroin seized after gardaí stopped and searched two UK registered vehicles on Saturday afternoon.

The vehicles were intercepted as part of a cross border operation carried out by the PSNI and officers from the Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.

They were stopped on the M1 just south of the border at around 3.15pm.

According to a statement from gardaí:

“During this operation heroin ( pending analysis) with an estimated street value of €210,000 was seized and three people, two males aged 41 and 24 and one female aged 30, were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.

All three were detained for questioning under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Dundalk and Drogheda Garda Stations.

Follow up searches were conducted on both sides of the border following the joint investigation.

The three are scheduled to appear at a special sitting of Drogheda District Court at 11.45am today.

I hate drugs. Heroin has ruined so many lives in ireland. I really hope the judge does his job and throws the book at them. No doubt they will have a sob story at the ready.

The charged for importing drugs should be changed to endangering a nation, these s(umbags don’t care who buys their wares nor how young or vulnerable they are. Everyone is a potential victim. The illegal drug trade/are laughing at our system because it is so soft and easy to circumnavigate.

There’s. Always one idiot who moans about something else.

Why would the gardai, priorities ticket touting in Brazil (a nation that was proud of it’s refusal to sign extradition treaties and welcomed criminal cash) over a significant drug haul within our own border?

It is fantastic that drugs are being taken off the street. The underlying problem is never being dealt with though. There is an absolute explosion in abuse of Benzos which is causing mayhem in certain areas. Young people in working class areas see dealing drugs as a legitimate career move. Until this problem is tackled we will always be chasing the issue not dealing with it.

Geoffrey. I believe that there is legislation going though the Dail at the moment making it illegal to possess perscription drugs without a legitimate reason. But this is all well and good, the problem lays with the Judiciary who refuse to impose mandatory minimum sentences, using the “Special Circumstances” clause on every occasion. And the Prison System has become so PC it has lost its fear factor to the criminals.

It is such a shame people won’t come together and run the drug dealers out of their areas… Its so easy to come online and say drug dealers are this and that but then say nothing in public!!!! There is no community spirit anymore and sure most of us have a friend or family member who is evolved in or have friends and family themselves involved in the drugs trade also Bitching & Moaning online won’t stop it.. Its time for people to come together and run them!!!

Jay. Who is going to run them? Their customers! Others in these communities are related or are friends with them. Dealers are not strangers coming into these communities they are a part of them.

So these lads are facing a trial and rightly so, I hope the key gets lost, but we can’t comment on any articles about hickey and the scandal in Rio, do you think Rio judges wake up in the morn and open the journal? ?
