Poll: Do you think JobBridge should be scrapped?

The scheme is being accused of contributing to the displacement of real jobs.

NO CHECKS ARE being carried out to see if companies signing up to JobBridge have laid off someone in a position that will be filled by an intern.

That’s according to an unpublished report by internal auditors at the Department of Social Protection, obtained by RTÉ’s This Week.

In May the Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar signaled that he wanted to replace it with a new scheme.

So today we’re asking, do you think JobBridge should be scrapped?

Poll Results:

Yes  (12962)
No  (1472)

@Mick Byrne: Hahaha. Do you really think a government made up of independents and smaller parties will be able to agree a path forward on any major issues. It would be a disaster.

I’m all for change/accountability and I think the only way to get that is one of the bigger parties propped up by SF. Prob very unlikely to happen as I don’t think SF will have the numbers or will be willing to come to the table.

@Jim O Brien – TechBuzz Ireland: Leo fancies himself as a poker player and the ‘opposition’ such as it is, would normally call him out but there is no opposition. Everyone is in government until the 5 year term is served and we still like to believe that this is a democracy. Item 1, a democracy needs an opposition to hold the government responsible. Ireland has always had two governments and one was/is always in opposition feeding off the other. Sycophant Lickopracy might describe the FFG ‘arrangement’.

The next government will give all those professions you mention pay rises, deliver existing cap ex projects for their original budgeted figures, cut income tax, abolish property tax and USC. Not forgetting increases in social welfare and health spending and a massive house building initiative. Maybe we can sort a few water pipes as well. Which party should I give my vote to?

@DBennie: Well if history has shown us anything it’ll probably be FF, I myself personally speaking think none of the parties are fit for purpose because to me there’s no true centre party anymore they all either swing wildly left or wildly right, even those that were historically center left and right. Fg won’t be re-elected, people have had enough, they had their chance to try and fix things and all they did was pick up their pay packets.

I’d say maybe this is when we finally see sense and end the FG/FF domination, but after the local elections and the fact that the definition of insanity is just politics in this country, I don’t have much hope.
I’ll still vote for the likes of SF, Greens and SDs along with left wing independents though, cos I can’t give in to apathy and still hope we can have a left wing government one day.

Time to change the record from Fianna Fáil or/and Fine Gael. Both parties are self interested and have served the upper tier since the foundation of this state, that said FF are far more crooked and corrupt than FG. We have become numb and desensitised to the harm FF/FG governments have done, homeless families, wholesale waste of public funds, NCH overspend and NBP giving billions away against the advice of PAC. Time to give Sinn Féin a chance, a party that will genuinely work for the citizens of Ireland, putting the people first.

I expected them to say that they would use the 1.5 odd million sterling they were gifted to build houses or some other cause to show they would really put the people before profit and party but it looks like they are going to pocket the whole lot. They haven’t put the people of Northern Ireland first by representing them in Stormont. Would one not be better of voting for a new party without any blemish to their character like the Social Democrats for people considering a different vote?
