Woman shot by police after stabbing three people on a bus in Brussels

Police opened fire when she refused to stand down, according to Belgium’s public broadcaster.

A WOMAN STABBED three people on a bus in Brussels today and was then shot by local police on the street outside.

She refused to stand down so police opened fire, according to local media. One of the victims was slightly injured, the other two are more serious.

Public broadcaster RTBF quoted sources as saying police did not believe the incident was an act of terrorism, and that the assailant may have not have been politically motivated.

The incident took place on Uccle Vanderkindere street, near the crossroads of La Bascule in the Belgian capital.

Belgians have been on high alert since local Islamic State militants carried out the attacks in Paris last November, suicide bombings in Brussels itself in March.

Very quick to point out they don’t believe it’s a terrorist incident….must be someone suffering from mental health issues so as seems to label the attacks lately.

Well that’s probably because every time anything happens these days people are quick to assume it is terrorism. If it’s not, people will likely want reassurance

She had a knife. They had shields, pepper spray, batons and guns. She’s off her head refuses to “stand down” and then they shoot her? What fu**? They could have easily taken her down without shooting her. That’s over the top, Donald would have been proud of that.

Depends how you classify terrorism? A lone wolf attacker inspired by Islam or isis is been deemed not terrorism atm if they are psychotic. I however would consider it terrorism as there fragile minds are easily influenced by the ideology.

A few terrorist atrocities on a relatively small scale and suddenly we are supposed to believe that there is an existential threat to Europe.

Read back over the hysteria and the emotive language in the comments in the early aftermath of the initial atrocities.

Terrorists succeed when they terrorise entire populaces.

To be truly free is not to let ourselves be ruled by fear and hate.

I can’t answer your question, but I looked up some related stats. Seems the county has a high enough murder rate in general to potentially have many news articles published.

Urban Audit said that Brussels had a rate of 10 murders or violent deaths per 100,000 citizens. That was 2001. If the numbers are still relevantly similar then we should see about 180 murders/violent deaths per year in total in the capital – as long as the population of the city is about 1.8 million.

Another source from 2010, “Nation Master”, said that the murder rate of Belgium as a whole was 1.8 per 100,000 per year. So that’s about 2000 murders in Belgium as a whole of the population as long as that population is about 11 million.

Non-Belgian media will not report most of these. However, cases of killings in public, where people could perceive them as terrorist attacks, will be reported because people tend to be interested in a countries being attacked for political or ideological reasons. People generally aren’t that interested in generic murder cases outside of their countries.
