SAMSUNG’S ISSUE WITH the Galaxy Note 7′s battery, which caused a small number of devices to catch fire or explode while charging, continues as it takes further steps to solve it.
The latest development sees Note 7 owners in Australia being offered full refunds or replacements if they return their devices to Samsung. It also advised them to turn off their phones and use an alternative device until a remedy is provided.
More than 51,000 phones were voluntarily recalled in the country by Samsung Electronics Australia because of “isolated battery cell issues“. Customers who return one can receive a replacement, and use a courtesy device while they wait, or get a full refund.
Late last week, Samsung said it was suspending sales of its latest flagship device and said it would offer new devices for those who have already bought it. It stopped sales on 1 September after it confirmed 35 cases globally where the battery caught fire or exploded while it was being charged.
Roughly 65% of the batteries for the smartphone were supplied by Samsung SDI with the remainder made by Hong Kong company Amperex Technology.
Samsung is recalling about 2.5 million Note 7 devices, and has sold one million since it first launched. While it didn’t confirm how much the replacement would cost, its head of its smartphone business said it would be a “heartbreaking amount”, according to Bloomberg.
In a statement on Friday, Samsung Ireland said it would “voluntarily replace” any current Note 7 devices with a new one over the coming weeks. Those looking for more information can contact its customer service team on 01 695 0367.
“We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause in the market but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers. We are working closely with our partners to ensure the replacement experience is as convenient and efficient as possible,” Samsung Ireland said in a statement.
The timing has been less than perfect for Samsung as its biggest rival, Apple, prepares to announce the next version of the iPhone tomorrow evening. It’s also expected to announce a new version of Apple Watch as well as final details of iOS 10, its mobile operating system.
Despite that, the company’s smartphones have been on the up thanks to both positive critical and public reception. In July, it reported its most profitable quarter in nearly two years as sales of the Galaxy S7 helped boost sales while the Note 7 has received positive reviews before it was released.

Eircodes are not for the postal system. They are unused by every postman and postwoman in Ireland.
Eircodes were conceived to firstly illegally fund An Post and secondly to facilitate Pat Rabbittes (now scrapped) Broadcastng Tax & the currently suspended Irish Water charges.
Although Minister Denis Naughten is trying to pretend they are for the Emergency Services when no emergency services at all were consulted in the abysmally limited design.
It is a billing & taxing database, nothing more.

Have to correct the incorrect assumption that Irish postcodes have somehow, for some strange reason have something to do with the Irish postal system.
As most people know by now nothing could be further than the truth. Eircode was a stroke by Labour in their dying days that we will be saddled with now for decades.
What do you do when Indo & Irish Times both have property sites & supplements that adore a property only postcode. No print, Tv or radion media wants to dis the minister for communications, or the DCENR, they holds too much power over them with regards to media ownership and licensing.

Given that were stuck with them now, it seems that we can do some more moaning, or just get on with implementing their use.
Except that they have left a gaping hole because they are dwelling only and hence useless for helping alert emergency services to non dwelling emergencies and their RANDOM nature adds to this problem. Also their reliance on an online database makes them useless during an outage as happened with Vodafone last week and as happened their server a month or so ago. Great for billing and taxing but as the head of national ambulance service said. “not the answer to all our needs in terms of rapid access to patients. Just look at all the RTAs this week. Eircode useless for notification of location of such accidents and always will be.

% of accidents that require emergency assistance that happen at an address? Quite high I expect. It makes absolute sense to assign some form of coding to the Irish address system. Especially in rural areas where 50 houses could have the same address. Not everything is a big conspiracy by ‘the man’
Oh its a conspiracy alright. 27,000 approx ambulance call outs per year NOT at dwellings. A hierarchical code for non dwellings also cover dwellings.

If Samsung (or any android)would just release decent software to sync with my macs and not mess up iTunes for my iPod I would move back in a heartbeat. Much better phones.
Upload your iTunes music for free to Google Play & play from phone over air or simply copy to SD card. If you have a good phone why the heck would u use & ipod? iTunes was great 4 years ago & Google was muck but roles have thoroughly reversed in recent times.
