Two people were also arrested and detained on suspicion of carrying out burglaries, while several road traffic offences were also “disclosed”.

GARDAÍ HAVE SEIZED drugs worth €90,000 in Kildare, after searches of 11 houses this weekend.

Gardaí and the Taxi Regulator also carried out 22 checkpoints across Kildare from Friday morning to this morning, resulting in a number of road traffic offences being disclosed.

“This operation consisted of 11 searches of private residences and a number of arrests,” gardaí said in a statement.

Over €90,000 of cannabis herb was seized.

Files will now be prepared for the information of the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the arrests, they added.

Two persons were also arrested and detained on suspicion of carrying out burglaries.

They have since been released without charge and a file will now be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

If motorcycles were invented today(instead of 100 years ago) they wouldn’t be allowed because they wouldn’t pass basic safety standards

I can give you my address if you want to do that, big man from the internet. I never said that accidents were motorcyclist fault, just that they are lethal. Your stats about horses is ridiculous by the way, motorbikes are 2% of road users and 10% of road fatalities. There is nothing wrong with discussing safety on the road after something like this.

Also Ireland is the most dangerous country on Europe to be a motorcyclist with twice as many death than any other country. Feel free to continue ignoring the elephant in the room if you like.

A man had died and that is a tragedy, I hope his family are ok! As ok as they can be I suppose!

Yesterday I was driving along and pretty much every person on a motorbike I saw on the roads did something that put them and other road users at risk. Now, this is not across Ireland, just what I personally observed.

3 bikes speeding around a corner in a reduced speed zone all hugging the middle line after a bit of a rain fall, they got lucky. Another one overtook me coming up to the crest of a hill, got lucky. Another one on the M50 zipping between cars, got lucky.

This young man, for whatever reason did not get lucky. Perhaps it is time to address the awful attitude we all have to driving here? Cars, motorbikes, trucks, vans, bicycles, pedestrians are all in it together. People are dying and we’re still not learning. Another family will wake up without someone today and the fact is that another family will go through the same thing before the end of the week.

Sad but true. RIP to this man, all that went before him and all that will follow.

I agree Dan, the standard of driving all vehicles in Ireland is deplorable. I am a motorcyclist, cyclist, motorist and have driven HGVs in the past and am never surprised at the antics of some road users. It is only when I drive abroad that the difference is really highlighted. RIP to the poor man.

Dear God lads. This is an article about a young man losing his life in an accident. Please try and keep your testosterone poisoning in check and show some damned respect. Everyone of us are vulnerable on the roads, less you’re in a tank. A large hunk of metal travelling upwards of speeds of 100km is insane when you consider it. I’m a motorcyclist myself and I’m painfully aware that if I hit anything or come off the damned thing I’m as good as done for. There’s a good reason EMT’s refer to motorcyclists as ‘donors’. But I, and many others, love biking. I like swimming too but could drown tomorrow. It’s a choice I make to do what I love. As I’m sure this young man felt the same. So please let’s leave the judgements at the door and if ye can’t express a sense of regret and sadness at the loss of this man’s existence then hold your tongue. R.I.P.

    This is crap.
When a biker gets killed on the road us other bikers tend to take more notice,as there is much more of a social aspect to it than car driving, meaning they could be somebody we know.
Every time I hear about a crash I have to just hope it’s not a friend.
    Condolences to his family.

R.I.P. to a fellow biker. The fact is with or without motorcycles we will all die sometime, this man died doing what he loved. There are dangers all around us and while we try to be safe we cannot live a life wrapped in cotton wool. If you have never ridden a motorcycle then you’ll never “get it”. I met a gentleman on my ride yesterday who had been riding a motorbike everyday since 1953 having never owned any other transport and as sprightly a man as I’ve ever seen at his age still doing what gives him a buzz. so don’t knock it till you try it and go out and as the song says ” do something everyday that scares you”

It makes a BIG difference. Was it bad speeding and losing control on his part or on another drivers part. If it was another driver, have they been caught? What should happen to them?

Very sad to read of another road death, my sympathies to his family and friends.
I don’t wish to seem insensitive or disrespectful in any way but I can’t understand how many more aren’t killed on that road.
The driving standards are beyond appalling from all users.
I live close by and avoid the M50 at all costs.
I am very bike aware (being an ex biker) but most aren’t.

RIP to a fellow motorcyclist. I am a car , truck , and motorcyclist driver and in fairness there are some idiot motorcyclists out there but do not tar us with same brush. I am motorcycling now for over 35 years and have taken various training over this time including the gardai motorcycling training and drive responsibly most of the time . Accident free but some close calls caused by absent minded car drivers not properly looking at junctions , not looking ahead entering roundabout , had a wee girl on L plate on her own brush my leg on the motorbike in the middle of a roundabout , almost a brown moment and she on the phone oblivious .. I caught her up at next junction and let her know what she did and was told to f… Off – so I reported her to guards at my sisters station. Drivers are so distracted now with electronics in cars , kids in back, getting the make up on , making that crucial phone call . Remember your driving 2 tons of metal that can kill in a instant . All it takes is a second and someone’s life is lost and could be your own. Slow down , look twice be wary of what’s ahead and fellow bikers njoy the ride , drive sensibly and do the odd spurt but keep within your stopping distance watch cars at junctions -pretend they hasn’t seen ya and drive appropriately and you’ll still be getting the leg over in your 80′s . My sincere condolences to the family .
