Police searching in Tyrone.

Search for remains of missing teenager concludes with nothing found

Police began searching yesterday after a farmer discovered a patch of disturbed earth.

A SEARCH OPERATION in Northern Ireland near where a teenager was last seen over 20 years ago has ended with nothing being found.

Police yesterday began searching land in Tyrone after a local farmer discovered an area of disturbed earth.

The remote piece of farmland is near where teenager Arlene Arkinson was last seen.

The 15-year-old girl disappeared in August 1994 after a night out and was last seen in the company of a convicted paedophile.

“The Police search operation at Killen in Co Tyrone has ended,” the PSNI said in a statement today.

Nothing suspicious has been found and the Arkinson family have been updated.

The missing girl’s sister Kathleen, told the BBC yesterday that news of the search “just came out of the blue”.

“Whether Arlene is here or not, we’re never going to give up fighting for Arlene because we’re not going to get justice,” she said.

But we’re going to get closure.

An inquest into Arlene Arkinson’s death formally opened in February after years of delay and is expected to resume next week.

I’d say Dublin bay contains a fair amount of skeletons.

My heart goes out to people missing loved ones when they find something like this. All they want is closure, its mental torture

Oh God, and so near Xmas, but I hope some distressed family gets closure out of this happening. The years of not knowing must be hell-ish, when a loved one goes missing.
