Armed gardaí called after man carries axe into grounds of a hospital

Local Gardaí and members of the Regional Support Unit attended the scene at the Cork facility.

ARMED GARDAÍ RUSHED to the grounds of a hospital in Cork after fears were raised over a man carrying an axe.

Local gardaí and members of the Regional Support Unit attended the incident at Sarsfield Court, Glanmire, just outside Cork City on Tuesday of this week.

Gardaí confirmed to TheJournal.ie that “a bladed instrument” was recovered at the scene.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at around 4.15pm on Tuesday, and brought to Mayfield Garda Station on the city’s northside and later charged in connection with the investigation.

The man appeared at Cork City District Court no. 5 court on Wednesday morning.

He was remanded on bail until 19 October to appear at the same court at a later date.
