MET ÉIREANN has issued a weather warning, advising that winds could hit up to 130 km/hr (80 mph) in some areas of the country – with some coastal areas facing violent storm-force winds.
A weather warning issued this morning has advised that it will be very windy across the country today, with stormy conditions expected in the north and west of the island.
Gale force winds will reach between 90 and 130 km/hr, strongest along the north and north-western coasts.
A separate gale warning has been issued for all coastal areas and on the Irish Sea, with south-westerly winds potentially reaching storm force 10 this morning in areas between Erris Head in Co Mayo and Fair Head in Co Antrim.
Winds may reach violent storm force 11 between Fair Head and Rossan Point in Co Donegal later this afternoon.
Irish Weather Online has advised that the north and northwest could also be hit by snow later today, with between 5 and 15 cm (2 to 6 inches) of snow potentially falling on higher terrain.
All in all, then: wrap up warm.

Stenaline have 2 new boats travelling from Cairnryan. The boats are only 2 weeks old, so I would doubt if they will take the chance with them today.

@Christina Downey Can’t go out coz I run a market business which involves out doors. Couldn’t go out in this wind 2day. I’m not scared of the wind. Just common sence is all.
