Sinéad O'Connor on tax defaulters list over €160k settlement

There were also a number of settlements between other individuals and Revenue that totalled over €1m.

MUSICIAN SINÉAD O’CONNOR is among those who have been named on the latest tax defaulters list.

O’Connor, with an address in Bray, Co Wicklow, appears on the list for “underdeclaration of PAYE/PRSI”.

According to the Revenue documents, she made a settlement of €160,304.90, including €90,543 in tax, €42,599 in interest and €27,162 in penalties.

The largest tax settlement made before 31 March this year was that of company director Michael Murphy of Highfield Road in Rathgar, Dublin, with a settlement of €7,000,000 including penalties of €1,790,598.10 and interest of €2,821,939.10.

John Tierney, a retired company director of 29 Knapton Road in Dun Laoghaire, had a settlement amounting to €1,486,859.

Retired company director James Farrell, of Bective View, Lloyd, Oldcastle Road, Kells Co Meath, had a tax bill of €686,341, amounting to €1,418,047 including interest and penalties.

Aircraft painters and glaziers IAC Graphics Limited, of IAC House in Dublin Airport, had a tax bill of €52,079, but with penalties and interest owed the final settlement came to €1,122,353.04.

A settlement of €1,044,288.15 was reached with James Spollen of Clara Road, Tullamore, including penalties of €312,378.55.

There were 101 settlements/determinations, coming to just over €17.44m, said the Revenue Commissioners.

Court cases

There were 230 court cases published between 1 January 2016 and 31 March 2016, coming to a total of €592,498.

Between 1 April and 30 June 2016, there were 282 cases, coming to a combined €733,919.50 in fines and penalties imposed.

In addition, nine people are named over fines for cigarette smuggling, three of whom appeared in court. Three people had a prison term imposed for illegal selling of cigarettes while one person was given 200 hours community service.

Two people were fined for possession of counterfeit alcohol for sale and one person for alcohol smuggling, while one person was fined for illegal betting.

One person was fined for obstruction of a revenue officer.

    The other big news story in Dublin besides what are referred to as eight story skyscrapers by the educated, was the man who kicked a pidgeon into the air breaking his wing and his two legs, and just kept on walking,plus the usual stabbings and shootings,Dubs, dont you just love em.
